I think we've established why foreigners don't tip, eh? ;)

    Haha :p

We should put signs up "For our lovely, cherished customers' general knowledge, minimum wage for your server is about 5 dollars less than everyfuckingone else. Please remember that when she refills yor drink without you having to ask, when you change the daily special, or when she has to beg the cook to pick the carrots out of your veggie medley. Thanks!"

Or we could make people pay and tip first, then base our service off that  hahaa

Waitresses get taxed at 8% (used to be?)of each check whether they get tipped or not. I've lived with a few waitresses and I realize how stressfull and sometimes crappy of a job it can be. I used to be one of those non-tippers when I was young, but I now tip anywhere from 30 to 50 %. It's not like I eat out all the time,so how is 6 or 7 bucks on a 15-18 dollar check gonna hurt me once or twice a month? Besides-they're glad to see me when I come in and I get great service. Every waitress I lived with needed about an hour after work to talk about the day and the dip-shits they had to deal with.

People here (Canada) still tip all the time, including myself. No one who works as a server however would starve if it weren't for their tips. Many restaurants that have server positions pay more than minimum wage because they know that people will expect decent money if they're going to work that kind of job, many I've seen advertised start at $12-$13 an hour. Minimum wage also goes up every six months here.

Employers don't pay their servers under the assumption that people will tip. If that was the case no one would want the damn job. Too unstable of an income.

Canada and the UK have been leading by example when it comes to finances and health care for decades now. Canada was hardly even hit by the recession.

The people who run the US have no interest whatsoever in providing better means for the citizens of the country.

As I said, it's different in Canada. Here the employers assume people are going to tip. It's the reason why working a fast food job is actually more preferable to a waitress in a "real" restaurant, depending on where you are and how the people tip in your area. At least in fast food they pay their employees at least minimum.

Is it not against the law to pay below minimum wage? It is here.

Minimum wage for servers is $2.50 as far as I know. They have their own little minimum wage thing. But like I said in a previous post, the server is responsible for keeping up with their tips and doing the math to find out if they got the full $7.25 (at least here that's minimum) an hour. If they didn't, their employer is supposed to cover the rest.

That's one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. I'd be outraged. If you're offering a service to your employer and helping bring money in to their business, they should have that shit covered for you.

Technically the difference between $2.50 and $7.25 that one's tips make up isn't even the employer's money, they're not paying you, the customers are.

    Hello,

yepp, that's the same with my Italian family. They came as immigrant workers around 1950 or 1960. The patrone speaks enough German to handle a conversation. His wife can only handle orders from the menu. Everything else that need talking, reading or writing in German is done by their children, who speak German like the natives.

    Regards
    Gyro

then there's the problem, not the customer. a tip is for good service, not service.

i don't tip my bin man, to clarify.

though i'm enticed to say by offering minimum wage it gives business a chance to offer wages both lower than they'd otherwise, as well as higher - it encourages this attitude of accountability in business.

this idea of someone starving without tips, as lunar stressed, is over the top. no one would. if that was the case, and peoples income didn't match basic requirements - then that's a case of human rights.

our minimum in the u.k wage is just under £6 pound an hour, so about $10. that's the law. who do you think america should really be pointing there fingers at? probably your government.

Mostly I just hate whiney little bitches who complain about everything going wrong in restaurants when there are people dying of starvation around the world.

You guys are only pointing out the OBVIOUS problems with restaurants...

There's a TON of shit that goes on behind the scenes that you never see...

Like serving old crappy food that should be quarantined.

Like food that falls on the floor and gets served anyway.

Like pissed off cooks and waiters who don't mind sabotaging your meal. You'll never know what they did to it, but they do as they watch you eat and laugh...

Just watch Kitchen Nightmares to get an idea.

Some restaurants, yes, but you cant forget about the people who take pride in what they serve, even if the people they serve it to are pissy or ungrateful.

That kind of reminds me of a time where I was asked to pass out drinks to the students in my sixth grade class. There was one really annoying girl who would not stop bugging me. So, when nobody was looking I spat in her cup and gave it to her. She did not noticed, but she seemed suspicious.

I would never do something like that ever again, though.
