    Keith Moon of the Who

To me, there's no question about it that this man was the greatest drummer in Rock history, as well as the embodyment of the youthfull rebellion his group stood for. I always litsten closely to drums on any track, but I never heard anything quite like the drumrolls and the crashing cymbals of this man.

He was also one of the first to see that a Rock drummer should be right up there with the rest of the musicians, rather then being a stoned timekeeper in the back. He always treated the drums as a lead instrument, and good things came from that. I was convinced of him being the best ever after hearing the Leeds album.

He should be nr. 1 thru 10, with an honourable mention to Neil Peart of Rush.

Derek Roddy from Hate Eternal (etc.) based on speed, tightness, complexity.

Proscriptor McGovern from Absu based on speed and tightness.

Frost from Satyricon (etc.) based on speed, tightness, feel, make-up and sexy motherfuckerness.

Nicholas Barker from Dimmu Borgir (etc., but especially there were his talents used in the right way) based on speed, tightness and complexity.

Not to sound too disrespectful, but he sucks. I've been playing for six months and there's nothing he can do that I can't do twice as fast.

    As a matter of speaking.

I would say:John Densmore for sheer style & complexity.
    Also Buddy Rich for exuberance.
Finally Ginger Baker for the drumming on: 'Pressed Rat & Warthog' .[IMG]

John Bonham (good ol Bonzo) is definitely my favorite drummer.
The drummer from Edgar Winters Group was great; just listen to Frankenstein.
TOOL's drummer is really good, too (listen to Reflection and/or Eulogy for his more complex stuff)

Also, most jazz musicians are such masters at their instruments that you can name any one of them and they'd make it to a list of the greatest.
