The 1990s were such a great decade when it comes to movies that it was hard to name just ten that were better than the rest, but I did it and here they are: 1. Saving Private Ryan (1998) - Steven Spielberg's brutal masterpiece changed war films, and in the process became, undoubtably, the greatest film of the decade. 2. Pulp Fiction (1994) - Quentin Tarantino had no idea that when he was making this masterpiece, he would change cinema in the 90's. Pulp Fiction was the most influential film of its era, and its influence continues to be felt today. 3. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Frank Darabont's film debut, based on the Stephen King short story, delivers with winning performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. 4. Fly Away Home (1996) - Underrated and underappreciated, Carroll Ballard's 1996 masterpiece stars Jeff Daniels and the beautiful Anna Paquin as a father and daughter who teach geese to fly, using ultralight aircraft. List to be continued.
5. Casino (1995) - Another underappreciated masterpiece is Martin Scorsese's 1995 crime epic with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, and James Woods, all turning in terrfic performances. 6. The Truman Show (1998) - Peter Weir's groundbreaking masterpiece stars Jim Carrey in his first major dramatic performance as Truman Burbank, a man who unknowingly has spent his entire life as the subject of a popular reality show. 7. Schindler's List (1993) - Steven Spielberg strikes gold again in this Holocaust drama starring Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, an industrialist Nazi who saves the lives of 1200 Jews by having them work in his ammunition factory. 8. Of Mice and Men (1992) - Gary Sinise directs and acts in this adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel that managed to be better than not only the original 1939 film, but the actual book as well. To be continued.
9. Dances With Wolves (1990) - Kevin Costner stars in and directs this Academy Award-winner that happens to be one of the greatest Westerns of all-time. 10. The Lion King (1994) - The only animated film on my list, The Lion King was a landmark achievement in animation, and it consists of great characters, beautiful animation, and and gut-wrenching emotion. One of the greatest animated films in cinematic history. Now, what is YOUR top 10 list of the 90s?
