Hah! I love it when people say that. It's like the little emo kid in everyone waiting to come out. Anyhow, Tool is mainstream as shit. Go to a college campus, any college campus. You'll see fat kids walking around wearing Tool shirts and giving you sad looks of pity when you point and laugh at them. "You just don't understand Maynard's pure genious", they must think to themselves as they cry themselves to sleep to the great lyrics: " I need to watch things die From a good safe distance" My favourite way of singing them is ofcourse: "I need to watch fish fry, From a good safe distance". It really does sound like he says "watch fish fry"... listen to it. Actually, no... wait... don't listen to it.
Half of Mer de Noms is pretty much telling emo kids to fuck off, lol. "Crying to yourself again Suicidal imbecile Think about it, and put it on a faultline" "Disconnect and self-destruct one bullet at a time What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die" "Medicated drama queen Picture perfect non-belligerence Narcissistic drama queen"
Yeah dude, have you heard of Maynard's side project Puscifer? So fucking mainstream. Did it without a label and everything. Bastard. And as for Tool sounding like APC? 10,000 Days is close, but they're nowhere near. They're not the same people! Everyone always thinks Tool and APC is the same. APC is on iTunes, Tool isn't. If anything APC is mainstream. Tool hates their fans, I don't think that's mainstream. They rarely get played on the radio. I may be fat but I do not walk around giving sad looks of pity in my Tool shirts, maybe that's been stereotyped. Sure, some of their lyrics are dark and Maynard even says that it hurts singing every night because he's not like that anymore, but that doesn't mean the listening population are all depressed and worthless pig fucks.
i like tool ok, but they're nowhere close to my favorite. i wouldnt mind owning one or two of the albums, but i'm in no rush to get them. i think both sides of this argument sound pretty lame, honestly. first and foremost music is about making something for yourself and others to enjoy. if you like it, listen to it. if you don't like it, listen to something else. i dont see the issue, honestly. its not like we're talking about something so horrible as ICP here. even if nobody liked tool at all, even if nobody had even heard of them...if the musicians enjoy making the music they play, then its cool. if they derive some sort of pleasure or fulfillment from it, then its worthwhile for them to be making the music. if someone doesnt like it, it doesnt really matter too much. anyway, i like them ok and think they're better than many groups of similar or higher popularity levels. that doesnt mean i think they're god's gift to music by any stretch, though.
I was exagerrating and being silly ofcourse. Stereotyping tool fans in humorous ways is one of my many many hobbies ...and Puscifer sucks balls.
The Deftones? Hahahahah A lot of people say that there is no such thing as "good" or "bad" music and that arguing about music is pointless. Those people are usually the ones with a shitty musical taste. You're not saying this though... you're just saying that any music is worth it... and sure... anything it truly worth it... but this isn't the point of this discussion (which is not really much of an argument). The point is that Tool are overrated. Anyone with a good musical taste can tell you that. How can you tell if a person has a good musical taste? Ahh! I will not go into notions of quality, but I would suggest reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"... an entire book about quality!
I like Tool personally. I have a few of there albums, and I quite enjoy them from time to time. I like some of the secret songs on the CD's...some of them are really messed up lol But no tool is not over rated. In my oppinion at least!
No one can say what good musical taste is because everyone is going to believe that their taste is the best. Your verry arrogant.
I am very arrogant when it comes to music, movies, and such. Because there is an element of quality in it. Is Pink Floyd better than Creed? You must agree with me that the obvious answer is "Yes". Is this beautiful Chagall painting Better than this: The obvious answer is "Yes". There is a presence of quality in culture. You cannot possibly deny this.
