The point is; every other driver managed to miss the guy and drive underneath. Tony's car was out of shape before he made contact. If he "fluff" the engine and lost control and made contact, why didn't anybody else "fluff" their engines, lose control and hit the kid? We're talking about a highly successful race car driver in many forms of styles, series etc. He should know how to control his car but he didn't have control. No point coming in hear all high and mighty with your mathematics and information. Drivers on track say "he matted the pedal and hit the kid". Nuff said. I follow many forms of racing and I've seen many guys get out of their car to confront a driver under yellow, I've seen Tony do this himself and throw his helmet at Matt Kenseth (memory) in frustration at Bristol years ago. I've never seen any of these drivers hit by a car in the process.
I don't really see what that has to do with this.. >.> Stewart runs Hendrick power, I'm a Hendrick girl. =p
Heyyy we have a European NASCAR series hehe. I doubt many Americans would even know that lol. It's all "stock" but no ovals and it's gaining more popularity. But most of my interest came to me in Australia and they had always had their sprint car competitions every few nights at the local tracks so i like to think I've been a part of the short track culture. =p The racing in Europe is much more political and boring though and drivers don't race as brutal because the cars cost money. NASCAR they smash cars up for pay back.. and no one blinks an eye but over here you'd lose the ride if you did that lol. I get to go to Hockenheim racing circuit and Austrian Red Bull Ring when the races are on here.
I heard he was planning to race again today but backed out at the last minute. Sounds like his PR team sat him down and explained that would not be a good idea. They work hard to get him sponsors and cultivate the right image. The fact that he would even consider that says a lot about him. He probably intended to just flick dirt on him. But the fact remains he did more than that and he doesn’t seem to care. Yeah the guy was not smart to stand on the track and challenge him like that. But from the video he clearly revved his engine under caution. I have some family that races those dirt tracks and the drivers are always fighting. No one likes anyone and things like flicking some dirt or trash talk are pretty normal. That or some fists flying in the pit. NASCAR even encourages stuff like that because like hockey fighting makes good ratings. He is a big earner and I have a feeling this will all be forgiven.
If you're driving one of those cars and you suddenly see an unexpected obstacle at the last second (a pissed off kid basically wearing camo), you try to steer out of the way by turning in the right direction and gun the motor. On dirt tracks you don't just turn the wheel, you have to drift. Whether or not he intentionally rode high to get a close to him is debatable, but the fact that he hit the throttle is evidence of nothing.
Cant press charges when you both signed a waiver for racing at that track, And TS has the $$ for the lawyers! The reason 'all the other drivers' got around him, Is the fact he was walking down the track and you can see the blue car having trouble too seeing at the last second. Others fluffed up their motors too im sure, But when a person gets hit and the red light shows, You hit KILL ASAP! Reason being there was no more cars going by. A 360ci or 410ci sprint car is a whole different animal than any other car. It has one gear, Its called the 'in/out box. You are in neutral until staging then you lock in and push off. This is where fluffing the throttle comes into play. Its like driving you're manual car around in 3rd gear only. Taking off is impossible and with high HP motors, 600hp+/-, You have to blow out the alcohol collecting in the motor and injection. If you don't do this, You WILL blow a motor from worn crank bearings and rotating assembly. Its a class for the risk takers, Plain and simple! Who else is going to throw a car into a slide going 170mph? At the nationals on a 1/2 mile track, The cars get thrown in hard and fast and split second decisions. Just a tragic accident! It COULD have been avoided, But he chose to walk into TS's car pointing a finger. Its been done at every track, Every type of motorsports, But this time it didn't fair well. BTW, TS is one of the most humble drivers out there on and off. When 30 people got hurt at Daytona, And he won the race and not one part of his caused harm, He was the only driver to go to the hospital to check on the fans who got hurt.
Someone said on the radio today that TS had a helmet cam. I wonder if that footage will show up on the web somewhere soon. That footage would answer a lot of questions I think.
Maybe one of the changes to come out of all this will be hefty fines and other penalties for getting out of your car and intentionally approaching other race cars on the track. That would be good.
I was able to watch a couple clips from his GoPro's that he has mounted all over the chassis on hoseheads. It clearly shows him not being at any fault and along with all the other angles from cell phone to cameras. They have said that multiple time and the only reason he is not racing is to save face and sponsor bullshit! Reason they haven't been released is for the fact of 'what' it shows and the family and whole situation, Not too good of timing. One of the two, Only way you could see him, Was looking at the wall and the black gap him/his dark attire made. Bad for the sport all around and I hope they step up on the stupidity on the track, There is the pits! On dirt its a totally different story and most if not all are raced at night time. Best bet is loss of point acquired that night if on track with no officials and caution lights and trucks around, Unless fire. Or since they already have ear buds so they know how to line up, Make the come with LED lights that flash when un-pluged from the tether cord's. Many options overlooked until now and its sad it takes dead body's to fund safety.
Unfortunately, the new NASCAR rule is that drivers are no longer allowed to get out of their cars without permission, even if they're worried about a car catching fire, and walk directly away from traffic.
I don't get it, why do you have to blip to drive at a caution speed? Everyone says alcohol, but so what? Aren't the high classes efi? Either way, are you saying it'll run really rich and you'll get alcohol in the oil? Maybe a dumb question, but why can't they just tune their shit so it doesn't flood under caution? Or put in a control to reduce fuel flow for lower speeds? (I know they like it crude and all, but you could even just have it pinch a hose, it shouldn't be rocket science) Not saying he meant to hit him, I don't think he did. But there also seems to be a lot of superstition about sprint cars - I've also seen people say you need to blip to keep the oil pressure up, to which I say, if the motor's turning that fast, the oil pump's turning the right speed for the motor. I can appreciate the crude nature of sprint cars, sort of like the racing version of counterstrike. The turn-off is the drivers and fans - as everyone says, the fans are dangerous drunk brawlers, the drivers have temper issues... what the hell, why can't you leave and do your trash culture somewhere that it WON'T reflect on racing and motorsports and car guys in general - are you trying to make everybody hate us? Do you want the whole country to be like california, where they have practically malicious smog laws that won't let you have BETTER numbers, if you do it without their clunky shitty innefectual smog systems, or with parts that don't have an expensive and meaningless "carb" stamp on them?
They do have fuel injection, Hillborn injection, But that's the nature of a 'sprint car'. They have a in/out box, So they have to fluff the throttle to keep speed, If they kill the motor its the back of the field. It will just lock up dead as shit and to be popped off again, Its to the tail. If you cruise around and don't 'unload' they motor via revving it, You will have un-burnt alcohol seeping into the oil. Oil pressure, It should hold fine, The fuel pressure is what needs to fluctuate from idle speed to ?? every car is different. Alcohol also runs cold, So to keep a certain temp, Fluffing is need too. They also run a dry sump oil system so the oil pressure argument is odd to me. They also idle at 35mph+/- so you have to keep up! No way around not getting alcohol in the oil, Either too lean and will not run or tuned perfect and flat out nasty, Bad speed! No real 'happy medium' running alcohol. Like you said, Kinda crude, But that's the nature of the sport and the way a 305/360/410ci sprint motor runs! Fans are fans, You can control them! Look at soccer in England etc, They take it serious more than motorsports! You fucking A right there is a temper when people are being stupid when you're life and a ton of $$ is at stake. Its an open wheel car, That depends on the wings for aerodynamics to keep the tires laying down the power. You can rub a little, But you will cause more to you're car being a 'badass' on track and trying the slide move in a slick spot! They get mad for the fact, CLEAN RACING, No dipshits like ward/tard! You pay a lot for pretty much a hobby and a handful get free rides. To have a contender sprint car operation you better have 100k+ depending the series. You wanna play, Gotta play and its not too fun when a dipshit is a loose cannon and cant control his car and cause wrecks, That starts the 'anger' and the more you are stupid, You will get stuffed! I have been around HP/Motorsports since I could ride at 5yr's old. Funny thing is, And I know many lower and less producing tracks, But hold these events are not letting out a key fact. I say this because all I have been to, They have them and I live in BFE and perrty mouth. When you register you're car at pit gate, You get ear buds that the track officials can say asap, High/Low apron etc. They are also used to line drivers back up to save 2-3 dead laps of burn fuel from idiots not paying attention. He tried to pull a wing bend stunt, While he was high, To cause aerodynamic problems from TS winning. Plus he though he 'caused' his wreck which he clearly did not. Im sure they were told low many times, But you cant go low enough when a fucktard is walking toward you and is halfway down the track in black! TS's name has been attempted to be drug through the mud and thrown under the bus! Didn't happen, It shows a person willingly try and grab the wing and mid to low side of track. Shows a person getting out of a car and not seeking safety, But stupidity that could have waited a few minutes as sprint races last 30mis tops! But why they have not relayed that info or mentioned it is beyond me. Plus the fact its TS, He has the $$ and top of the line equipment. Ask yourself this, If you were in the sprint racing sport and or a multitude of motorsports, Wouldn't you have an edge to you considering you are putting you're life on the line?!?!
Yeah, I don't think he did it on purpose, and I don't think he's at fault at all, in fact. But I'm still skeptical (yes, from my armchair) about the actual need to rev, beyond superstition. If it's running efi, it should be able to idle just fine, without contaminating the oil. Old constant flow type fuel injection (like on old drag cars) is a whole 'nother disaster, it's got to be run at WOT constantly, but with anything resembling modern efi I just don't see how it should be a problem. I can totally see it with alcohol running through a carb, and I can see the habit carrying over to the efi cars when they move up in class.
