Watching this movie: "Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn." (2014) Finally, a movie that shows these two as they really are: barefoot!
Yep, They knew back then shoes were not necessary, going barefooted not much more difficult then going bare handed. Then the shoe industry came along "One of the largest environmental impacts of shoes come from the manufacturing stages of the shoe life cycle; and surprisingly, out of the people surveyed a majority of them believe that shoes only an environmental impact after they are thrown out. In the stage of manufacturing, large amounts of machinery and chemicals are required to produce shoes." Environmental Impact - The Shoe Industry Its ridiculous already
Yes, "back then" children, young people and some adults didn't wear shoes because they were expensive and I'm guessing rather uncomfortable. But the movie was made in 2014. My point is that it's nice to see a modern film that recognizes that young people "back then" and Mark Twain's characters in particular didn't wear shoes. So many Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn movies depict the characters wearing shoes...which is wrong for the period and wrong for the characters.
