Has anyone ever been to a Toga Party? My husband and I are attending one tonight. Well, it is actually a Greek Themed "cook off" type thing, and everyone has to bring a greek themed dish (and wear a toga). I don't think I'll wear a bed sheet, though. I have a white dress that I bought in the summer that my husband says looks like a "sack" on me, so I will most likely wear that. My good friend Pete said he is dressing up like Jesus. How that is Greek, I am not quite sure, but it should be funny. I'll try and get some pictures.
I went to one when I was young. I didn't wear a bed sheet either, of course. A white dress will do. You could do something like a laurel wreath though. And/or style hair. But the important question here is What food are you bringing??? Mmmmm greek food
I'm bringing stuffed peppers with a spinach, feta and quinoa mixture. Can't wait to eat until I cannot move. Would LOVE to bring you along with me. You'd get along well with my friends, I think. They are a good group of people. And my best friend, who has been living in Australia for the last three years, is now back in the city and will be there as well. It is so nice to have her home.
i didn't realize toga parties actually happened. really, any themed party seems to be the kind of thing that only happens on tv. costume parties for halloween, sure, but beyond that it always just seems to consist of "gather together and drink."
My best friend and I organized a toga party once but we were the only ones who actually wore a toga.... Which would sound sad under normal circumstances but it was basically a normal day for the two of us
Really? I go to more theme parties than not, I think. If a party is planned in advance, then there is usually a theme attached to it. If it's impromptu, though, then that is a different story. I love theme parties and dressing up. Did you see the picture of me dressed as Marge Simpson on facebook? I don't think I've ever been more proud of a costume in my life.
eh, even the pre-planned parties i've been to are generally always just based on a bunch of people planning to get together and drink at a certain place on a certain day. i think the closest to a theme i can think of is back in college when we used to do "40 thursday." it happened every thursday and the theme was you had to bring a couple 40s to drink. i did see the marge costume. that was pretty amazing really. and hubby was flanders, right? was it a simpsons party? i just assumed it was a couples halloween costume.
No no, it wasn't a Simpsons party. It was a regular halloween party, and singles were allowed. That stupid blue wig gave me a bit of whiplash, unfortunately. I had bags in it to make it stand up, and the extra weight on top of my head fucked up my neck while I was dancing....
Only toga party I went to was actually on college grounds and solely organized because I studied history and we just went through the ancient greek and roman period. Wearing something like a toga (so a bed sheet ) was obligatory, just like attending the thing . It was more an ancient roman theme party than just toga. Some of us were servants (slaves ), people messing around with greek/roman-like food and there were poetry recitations of classic roman authors. With hindsight I regard it positively but I recall it mostly felt like an obligatory thing at the time
