Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner blasted Republican legislators during a post-mass shooting press conference Tuesday, insisting that they are “against [voters’] safety.” On Monday night, a gunman opened fire in the Kingsessing section of southwest Philadelphia, killing five people and injuring several more. During Tuesday’s press conference, Krasner wrapped up his speech by criticizing Pennsylvania’s gun laws. “Finally, I just want to say this: it is disgusting, the lack of proper gun legislation that we have in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” Krasner said. “It is disgusting that you can go to New Jersey and find a whole list of reasonable gun regulation that we don’t have, that you can go to Delaware and there’s almost as long a list of reasonable gun legislation that we don’t have,” he added. ...................................................................................................................................................................... Well Mr Krasner, yes I like Jersey's gun laws. but in no state, anywhere can a convicted gun fellon legally purchase a weapon. This is an illegal weapon. I guess since you dont have a MAGA perp on your hands then you can complain about Republicians. Stick to enforcing what laws you can.
There's statistics from 2015 showing the gun murder rate in Delaware as being 5.5 per 100,000 capita and for being just 3.9 in Pennsylvania, so what's up with that? It might be further noted that it was only 1.6 in WV where open carry without any kind of permit has always been the order of the day. And since 2016, no permit is required for CC either, so what can we make of that. Just asking? Gun violence in the United States by state - Wikipedia
What we can make of that is is that the gun murder rate is tied to more than just gun laws. You also have to take into account average population age, cultural differences, associated laws and regulations, medical facilities, and population densities. Further we have to consider how much higher, or lower, the murder rate would be if the gun laws were more strict or lenient.
OK, that's a reasonable enough assumption. So with that being the case, if WV would pass some the strictest gun laws in the country all over the state and say much like the cities of NY and Chicago as well as Philadelphia, have in place, then the gun murder rate should drop to 0 or close to it, right? And speaking of Philadelphia isn't this city the basis of the subject matter? Cities with Strictest Gun Laws – GLS Tactical
Depends on the laws, consequences of the violating the laws, number of grandfathered guns, rate of guns crossing the border from less restrictive areas, the average population age, cultural differences, associated laws and regulations, medical facilities, and population densities. I would say that if that all guns were eliminated from WV by some law(s) and implementation of that law(s). The gun murder rate would drop to 0. I don't know what you mean by Philadelphia being the basis of the subject matter.
That's making it really complicated and for being simply put, if we should just pass NY city's gun laws for the whole state of WV, would the gun murders per capita disappear? IMO, I don't think so and since it hasn't really done much for the major cities, like Chicago and Philadelphia as well, with some of the highest gun murder rates in the country. As to your question..... I was just referring to Piney's post #162 above and not necessarily the whole 9yds of this thread, so I didn't really make myself clear with this statement. For summing it up, I really don't know what the answer is, but do know that for the most part, the perpetrators of these crimes have a deranged mentality about them.
No. They would never completely disappear as anyone who is 21 years old or above and is an American citizenship or a registered alien can buy a gun in New York City after applying for a permit. In addition someone can bring a gun into the city from somewhere else, that's one reason we need universal gun laws
Not familiar with every detail for every state, obviously. Just for knowing what I read and for this info about NYC.... "New York New York is one of the most restrictive cities with respect to firearms and the 2md amendment in the US. The largest city in the country has an assault weapons ban. This ban prohibits semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines, pistol grips, folding stocks, muzzle brakes, etc,. New York City law drags many modern and some not so modern semi-automatic sporting rifles into the penumbra of assault weapons. The city also has magazine limits. Semi-automatic rifles and handguns were previously limited to ten rounds or fewer. However, a new law was passed where the magazine capacities were further reduced to a maximum of seven rounds. Also, high-capacity magazines will have to either sell their magazines out of the city or surrender them with respect to ammunition under laws. All sales of ammunition will subject the buyer to a background check through NICS. This means that there are no internet or mail-order sales in New York. New York gun laws allow the scrutinization of the sale of large quantities of ammunition. Another provision of New York gun law changes the doctor-patient confidentiality rules. So if a mental health professional reasonably believes that a patient poses a danger to either himself, herself, or a third party, that mental health professional is now required to turn that information over to the state. With the information, the city will be able to use its discretion in either suspending or revoking such an individual’s gun permit. In most cases, they will also seize the citizen’s weapons. Any assault weapon owner in New York must register each and every weapon with the state." Certainly not as lenient as most other cities, I don't think and WV as a state would be one of the more lenient ones.
The only difference between 1958 and now in terms that relate to gun deaths is availability…availability of more lethal assault weapons, more high capacity, weapons designed only for killing. The NRA and R s have pushed gun ownership across America and gun deaths have soared accordingly. What insanity. Nit picking geographic differences in gun violence across the nation only obscures the major factor in gun violence….availability. Why is it so hard for a swath of our population to comprehend this? Sure test of mental health problems indicating people who should not have access to guns is the very people out buying highly lethal weapons at gun shops, and gun shows, and on line.
Yeah for sure and too funny except for some individuals in the minority that made it not!! On another note, Oregon's gun crime rate should now fall dramatically with this passage .... Federal judge rules Oregon’s tough new gun law is constitutional But what does this mean??? ..... "Those who already own high-capacity magazines can only possess them at home or use them at a firing range, in shooting competitions or for hunting as allowed by state law after the measure takes effect". .....and for wondering what else you could possibly do with these that was not a crime of some sort.....
Senseless violence? From rocks and clubs to H bombs and ubiquitous firearms and continuing wars nowadays (as always )---it 's evidently been the pathetic human condition from the beginning. Why and how would it ever change? I can see how the earth could be a paradise for all sentient beings, but-----never happen because we're a damn sorry lot. We're hustling our way to extinction,IMO and only then will the earth heal itself from our stupidity. Oh, don't get me wrong----I see beauty and noble acts daily from around the world. Too little--too late, I'm afraid.
