My estimates for 1-2 years SE is not from a web site, but from here. I look at pics like "my one year natural time line"..and Im like okay...where the hell are they???? Looks like ya just love the 80's. Not trying to disagree with ya', just telling you where I get that from. I know different hair is going to dread at different rates. Im down with ya on that one. Who I am interested in watching is Mabster...seems if anyones hair would lock up naturally quickly it would be his and his white boy 'fro. I look forward to his updates.
Also, Smelly. I am waiting to see how long those backcombs are going to stay in since she isnt using wax to hold them together until they toughen up a little. One wash already, and holding in there!!!!!!!

I tried to backcomb mine in the very beginning, but looking back, I was not that successful. So, my dreadies are basically natural (nothing other than backwards brushing and sectioning, that did NOT hold at all). If I could do it over again, I probably would have done a more thorough job back combing and found appropriate beads for larger dreads.

Dude, did you not notice the title of the thread? Not everyone who chooses to not go natural is an idiot who has no idea how the natural side works. "Baby dreads" are not the same as dreadlocks, they're just not. At 7 months my dreads are barely dreadlocks still even though all my hair is pretty tightly knotted (the ends are not, and they still need a few months of maturing). Natural dreads take longer to form than other methods, plain and simple. And people choosing not to go natural is not an attack on you or the natural way.

And I don't think it's necessary for you to post in one of the few threads here that does not pertain to you. I'm pretty sure everyone who has ever read more than 12 threads here would know how you started your dreads, and what you chose not to do for exactly what reasons. We know. There's no need to continue trying to smarten everyone up to see it your way.

i went natural for a month and my hair didn't even knot up at all! lol... i rarely brushed it to begin with... anyway, i'm glad i backcombed (loosely) and now i'm just letting them do their thing... if i did it again i would do it the same way, i LOVE my dreadies how they are.

i pulled one apart a bit yesterday and there was a bit of what looked like soap scum in the middle... grrr wtf?

as i'm brushing mine out, i'm finding that they're FULL of that crap, which can't really be brushed through and you kind of have to just rip it out. I'm kind of surprised seeing as how I used mostly dr. bronners which is supposed to be residue free. ??

I still say get it. It smells nice and if you dilute it it lasts pretty much FOREVER. and you can use it for washing anything and everything. It's awesome.
I don't think it was Bronners that was in my hair, it was way too sticky like.
I dunno I've gotten beer poured all over my hair before and not been able to wash it for a day or so afterwards a few times (oh punk shows), and also I just didn't wash my hair that much in general (oops) so maybe it was just dust and stuff in my hair.

assumming its not ever been waxed that can be alotta different things
if u live in acity or highly congested area cars exhausts and believe it or not tire rubber gets in the air..polutants..sweat congealed natural hair oils..possibly some soaops and even bronners if not rinced well enough or if your waterr type doesnt rince it well
its most likely a number of things combined that was never fully removed
as much as i love brionners lately ive been using baking soda far far more
(and to anyone worried bout new dreads wether natural or backcombed without wax falling apart ..thge bakindg soda requires zero rubbing so you just dump it on..wait a bit then rince out..nothing could be gentler so noi risk of unraveling
but it can soften hair making it puffier (if newly backcombed) but sleeping on it will compress it again and help it tighten
only thing id dop in early weeks though is use just baking soda and sea salt, no lemmon juice or oiis...unless u have bad dandruff then just a tiny bit of teatree and or rosemary

(that was mostly for smelly...and maybe lil for callie too so she can understand how easy it is to not unravel knots if u dont wax)

i also swear by giving em a good ol shake out to get some water out of em after washing really helps knot formation
smelly u post pics after the 1st wash?

I used to use DHHQ shampoo which was lurrfly, but I don't think I washed it out properly... Anyway I could wash my hair once a week, or go a little longer if need be :) I started using DrB's a few weeks ago and have noticed my dreads feel like they need washing a little more than once a week... I'd wash em, go a few days and then feel I need to wash them again :( I liked my weekly routine xD Also DrB's doesn't make my dreads as soft as DHHQ did...*Strokes dreads* Iiii dunno... I'm gonna switch between the two, use DrB's to clean them them give em a little bit of dhhq to soften them xD

Ohh I'm spoiling my dreads now lol

it bothers me just a tiny bit. people ask me "who did them?" ... i cant answer that theyre fully natural, it bothers me just a little bit. a guy backcombed them with a bit of wax in the beginning (the next day i found this place -_-) so i'll have to start explainin some stuff, veery few understand the true process

baking soda,, i dumped on and rubbed a teeny bit, along my scalp (not the dreads), but i did this cause i had head cheese and it needed to come off.

i posted a pic i think, in my dready thready. they didnt really come apart, but they have gotten REALLY frizzy. like uber frizz, afro style-ee. so yes, it does go puff-ier (great word SE)

overall they havent completely fallen out simply because i washed them. theres a few that are starting to feel like really loose hair, almost as if its 'normal' hair again, which is disheartening, so i dunno what to do.. might leave it, might call nina up
