I've planted trees and plan on planting more in the future. It's a beautiful thing.

Just planted my first 3 trees, planted 2 oaks and a rowan tree! Im planning on planting 1 every year! They are planted just behind my house on public land on a very steep slope, so hopefully there will be no need to cut them down ever.

Hello and Namaste Sadknite!! I would totally agree with you about trees and it is the most unselfish way of showing you realy care for life on Earth. I used to be a tree planter befor my arthritis took over and I planted about 300,50,000 trees in some of the worst weather that Scotland can throw at use, Hard work but well worth it. Lets start turning all the CO2 in to oxigen and trees.

Somebody I know was moaning today about the 2 x 60ft trees that are in their garden. It's the time of year when they are dropping acorns, and from that height they are worried about them leaving dents on their cars ffs! (they can hear a constant wood-on-metal noise as they drop).

They were there when they bought the house, but are protected. They were coming up with lot's of plans about drilling holes in the tree then covering them with holes, or using copper nails and all sorts of other tricks to hurry their demise.

Needless to say I was less than impressed!

    Hello,

Plant a tree online, for every tree you plant you will get 100 pixels to put your image with a link to your website. Help us make a better world.

Like one of greenpeace slogans say: "When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can't eat money..."

The world’s tropical rainforests are the richest and most diverse habitats on the planet. They contain a wealth of ecosystems and wildlife, with many species yet to be discovered and many species in extinction.

Oddly enough, I've never planted a tree. I really need to get on that.

Though I did participate, sorta, in a tree planting in high school with my environmental science class. And it may be that I've planted some at some point that I don't remember. But never can I remember intentionally planting one. I worry about doing it because here in the city, with the lawn mowers and such, such trees probably wouldn't survive unless it looked like it was "supposed" to be there. Stupid, because the trees preceeded us humans in Michigan by 10,000 years (since after the last ice age, though there were trees before too), and in North America, by 70 million years (for the hardwoods...conifers are even older).

I did hear this once. Can't remember what culture it was, might be native american, might be european, but they'd plant a tree at every major life event. Birth, marriage...or maybe if one had a dangerous experience or a lucky break or discovered something new, they'd plant one. I love that, and whoever's tradition it was, I want to adopt it. :)

[anyone know the history behind that?]

I purchased 13 acres of cow pasture where I put my house, The trees were all cleared off, so far I've planted about 60 trees and don't plan on stopping any time soon. I add new ones every year. Trees are the most beautiful things. Everyone should plant at least one if possible. Peace.

are you just gonna grow trees? 13 acres is a good bit of land, I'd want to put at least some to good use, like growing a crop or something.

    But that's great you're planting trees :)

I've planted many trees but not anywhere close to the amount I've cut down. I used to have 80 acres with only about 10 acres cleared and I cut my own trees for heating the house.

You could replant as you cut them, so you have a constant source of wood, but it looks like you were speaking in the past tense and that you don't have that land anymore. Oh well, live and learn.

Brandon, I also have many raised beds, where I grow my own vegitables in the summer. I also have a strawberry patch. And I grow flowers too.

Most of the trees on my property were poplar trees, and they would grow from the roots of existing trees or trees cut down. Basically these trees replant themselves continually. They a kind of like a weed tree. Even in areas of predominate other species they usually take over a cleared area (harvested) within a year and commercial forestry industries usually spray the area with herbicides to kill them but do not kill the conifers that industry wants.
