A pity I finally get to this after the Christmas holiday is over, but... I have to say a few things. Christmas was originally a celebration of the winter Solstice, by Roman pagans and the like, originally called Dies Natalis Invicti Solis, to celebrate various things. I don't know quite what, because I wasn't alive back then. Anyway, in 272 AD, on December 25th, was the first official public celebration of the holiday. Later it was opted by Christians to celebrate the birth of their favorite Jew, and turning the holidy into "Christmas" in 336 AD was part of the church's pattern of stealing various festivals and the like to try to appeal to others of different following. However, that's not what really irked me about this thread. Someone in this thread said that they wanted to 'puke all over' those who are enjoying the holiday season. How polite and considerate of the feelings of others. Isn't this supposed to be a forum of people who are full of love and happiness and compassion? You would deny others happiness out of something you don't like? Sounds kinda twisted to me. "We hate the MAN because he illegalized drugs and I can't be happy within legal reason because of it!" "I hate the MAN and I don't want them to have fun at that stupid Christmas holiday!" What utter hypocrisy. If you're gonna whine about wanting something, you should at least be fair and be accepting of those who've already got stuff.
exactly as the person stated above. christmas isnt just for kids, and it isnt a time for your petty little crybaby crap. and why do some of you so called "hippies" feel like raining on other people's parades?? just because it isnt so great of a time for you?? how hippylike..... people actually do enjoy the holidays, and if some of you dont, doesnt mean you have to ruin it for the rest of us. plus I think yall are getting too much into the materialistic side of it all. christmas is more than that...... and I dont mean to sound like some corny christmas movie. you dont realize how great christmas is until you are separated from your family. I dont get to see my family all together until the holiday season. I would care less if I got presents. its just the time spending with the family is all that matters to me. we have so much fun just talking, and playing games, and spending time with one another. its a thing that people take for granted. its the warmth you spend with your loved ones, its not spending money on gifts or putting up christmas decorations. some of you people buy into that crap.... and you think people just celebrate it for materialistic reasons. no. I do it because I dont get to see all of my family together on one night or two, just spending time and love.
well, i'm a couple of days late, but no, i wasn't really excited about christmas. it also went pretty crappy, with my family being shitty to me, and making me cry, and then trying to blame my being upset on the fact that i am pregnant (i'll admit, i'm moodier than usual, but this time i was in the right). i detest the material side of christmas. i'm not exactly sure why most of my family celebrates the holiday. they aren't particularly religious, and we don't all enjoy each other's company enough to justify the hassle. on a side note, my adult siblings spent all of christmas day teaching my sister's pet parrot how to say fuck you, and then everyone (except my hubby and i, we left,) sat around and got high. just what jesus would have wanted, i'm sure.
