I hate when you go in a place that is normal and the people shouldn't get tips, them there is a tip jar. Then, when you try to pay with a card to avoid a tip jar, they give you a receipt to sign with a space to put a tip on it. Then, when I refuse to give a tip, I feel something bad will happen to me, like i will have really bad karma and they are setting me up to have really bad karma. It is getting harder and harder to avoid these places now a days. Why do employers lately expect their customers to pay their employees wages? It wasn't like that for me back when I worked minimum wage.

refusing to tip only hurts the employees. and fyi, the people making your food or drink notice when you don't tip, just a warning.....

The OP is likely talking about when you go to places like....well, a few specific places I have noticed it at that aren't restaurants where you sit down and order food brought to you by a server are- this little crepe stand at the beach.... an ice cream shop... another ice cream shop (actually lots of ice cream shops, including when years ago I worked at cold stone), a french fry stand, Starbucks, etc.

In any case, my view on it is I don't feel people should feel pressured to HAVE to tip in those cases. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It depends on whether I'm paying by cash or card and how much money I have left over and how much I do or don't need the money....as well as the quality of service.

When I worked at Cold Stone we had one of those tip jars on the other side of the cash register. It was just there and I don't feel like anyone felt pressured to leave tips. Most people either didn't leave one or would put in their change if they had coins given back. What would happen was- if you're the only one on shift, you get the tips at shifts end... otherwise you split it with who ever was with you. (Pretty obvious, I know.) At the end of like a four hour shift I'd usually have anywhere from like $4 to $30 on some really busy and great days. Sometimes people would leave a really generous tip including someone who left me a ten dollar bill when they only ordered one ice cream. :) In any case, I never got offended when ppl didn't put a tip in there.
I just always viewed those things as an optional thing. It's nice to do if service is great and you have the change or really want to tip... if not, no big deal.
That was the way I viewed it as an employee and also the way I view it as a consumer.
    No big deal. :)

Considering people leave the tips in a jar after the employee hands them the food I really don't see your point to your "warning".

I don't ever tip in places where employees dont work for tips. I dont pay any attention to tip jars. If someone is paid a living wage they don't need tips.

I usually tip about 30% to bartenders and waitresses. I have great respect and sympathy for those in the service industry who survive on tips

And that's generally after they've been given the food, right? It's really only fast food junk stores where you pay after you order before food is prepared.

i tip if its a young employee obviously starting out in life

if its an old hag or even mid-age person I figure they should have moved up by now to a better paying job if they expect more than minimum wage

and of course i dont ever tip if its the damn owner of the place serving me

Thats fine if you are never going there again.

When i delivered pizza you knew the customers who didnt tip and if you had 2 orders the one who didnt tip got their pizza second every time.

I tip beer wenches and waitresses of nice restaurants but depends on the service. We are meant to tip 10% in most European countries. I do this in larger groups but if just me and partner, I'll round the bill up to the nearest note that I have.

Couple weeks ago I ordered a pizza and this dorky little white dude shows up to deliver it and the prick had the audacity to ask me "do you want your small change". Bloody oath I do, I don't tip pizza delivery, that's why there's a delivery fee. I'm an arrogant asshole anyway and I rarely tip anywhere. The Korean Kim Chi place gets about $5 from us every time but it's great food and service, one of our little gem of a place to eat. Luckily we don't need to tip in Australia. When I went to Europe for a while we tipped when necessary. Went to a 5 star Michelin place and the waitress didn't ask if we wanted to tip so just threw the amount into the card machine and then after we paid it was too late for a tip. We felt bad for her, gorgeous little Polish chick so we gave her $20 worth of euros.

Yeah but he worded the title badly. Or very well if he was looking for the kind of answer he got. Which is a bit of a troll thing to do.

I have no idea what happened there. Here a michelin place is where you buy tires and they have no card machines

We are? Never heard of that. I only tip in second or third world countries. We are not ment to tip people in the netherlands some specific percentage at all as they're all making minimum wage (which doesn't mean lots of people still like to tip for a good service of course). Waiting tables is simply not a tip-based job here.

Yeah, I was pissed off that I just came from a place that deliberately gave me a receipt with a tip line on it when I paid online to avoid that, and the guy stared at me like he wanted me to tip him for doing his job. I feel like regular employees are turning into panhandlers.
