Has anyone had a problem with ringing in the ears caused by pain meds such as Hydrocodone, Tramadol or others?

I'm just trying to narrow it down. I've had it for a while at a low level, but had a spike a few weeks ago. I've looked through the informational literature I get with refills and couldn't find it as a listed side effect in any of my meds. I take Hyfro's and Tramadol for a spinal condition. A few weeks ago I had a lot of things to do around the house, and it was killing my back, so I took extra pain meds. That's around the time I noticed the spike. There were other things going on at the time as well though. I had an abscessed tooth that got away from me and resulted in a sinus infection as well as an infection in my right ear, which is the one causing the ringing. I took antibiotics for 10 days which cleared up the infections, but there is still some inflammation in my rt ear canal, for which I'm using hydrocortisone drops. But the tinnitus spike has continued. I'm just trying to narrow the cause down. I did some google searches and found that some people have had this as a side effect of pain meds, but not very many.

I lowered my dose, and the ringing has reduced. I guess I'd been dosing too high.

All the pain meds listed abov have have one thing in common and thats whats probably whats causing the ringing in your ears, its the tylenol / acetaminophen.Do a google search tylenol ringing in ears or painkillers ringing in ears and you will see a lot of people get tinnitus from too much acetaminophen and it can cause or in severe cases partial or complete hearing loss. If you are taking that many painkillers with acetaminophen please learn how to do cold water extraction its so damn easy. There are a ton of step by step videos on you tube showing you how to get the acetaminophen out and just have the opiod left. Also if your ears are ringing from that much acetaminophen I can only fucking imagine how much its ripping apart your liver ! If you are getting the pain killers legally from a doctor ask him to lower the dose of acetaminophen or change your vicodin to vicoprofen AKA Hydrococodone with ibuprofen

Yeah, from what I've read acetominophen is the main culprit. The Tramadol I take doesn't include it though. I think that's Ultracet if I'm not mistaken. My Hydro's do contain 325mg of aceto though. It's not really bothering me since I reduced my dose. At that time though I had definitely been overdoing it.

I need to get my tolerance back down. That could take awhile, but it's possible. I only had 35mg yesterday, which is lower than what I'm prescribed, but I barely hear anything today. I don't think I could live with that loud shit. It's like a tea kettle going off in your ear 24/7. It's something you need to experience to understand.

Hell yes.....my ears always ring when I am withdrawing. The ringing subsides as the WDs do.

My ears have been ringing for 5 or 6 years.

Changing from high dose Ibuprophen to Meloxicam did not help.

I don't notice Tramadol or Hydrocodone affecting it when I occasionally take one of them.

It does seem louder on certain days. It may be stress or blood pressure or something when it seems louder to me.

It seems a lot quieter now, and some days I don't even hear it. I reduced the Hydrocodone to 20mg/day and the Tramadol to 100mg/day. I saw an audiologist in April who said that some medications or combinations of meds can cause it but he hadn't heard that about Hydrocodone or Tramadol. All I know is that when I reduced the dosage the ringing became quieter. It could be a coincidence.
