man this is just stupid, of course a lighter doesnt melt or boil aluminium

if you actually inhaled the amount of aluminium youd get from burning or vapourising aluminium, youd like die instantly

its the fact that compounds and other particules of aluminium come off when its heated up. just liek the sea doesnt need to get to 100 degrees for it to evapourate into the sky, aluminium doesnt need heaps of energy to have a few bits come off

theres no evidence, but i keep it to a minimum myself, foil tastes odd and feels really trashy :p

but i like making foil pipes, i have my own special method, i dunno how most people make em

I don't get it. Yeah, tinfoil is easy but there are about 100 ways to make a makeshift bong or bowl out of household items that won't cause any harm.

    Just try something else.

if you still wanna use simple aluminium, use (alimunium) tin can, instead of foil, as a bowl

I have had to line the bowl of my bong with aluminum for months now cause the screen fell out and I can't find one the right size for it.

    meh, whatever

I've used tin foil for various smoking expeditions before and I'm perfectly fine
it just kind of...well tastes funny sometimes, but I highly doubt your usual household tin foil will give you anything

Exactly. Water ice can vaporize without melting, it evaporates straight into the air. It's even more pronounced in liquid water of course, which evaporates without boiling.

So, apply that to metals. They say not to cook with aluminum pots/pans, because residues from the pot get in the food. They say it's ok with iron pots because your body needs iron.

No one (as far as I've read) really knows if aluminum is dangerous to people, but there is some evidence that it is and it's suggested we avoid it. Its not a mineral your body needs or uses, so it's definitely not GOOD for you. I say, if you need to use a foil pipe, alright, but don't do it a lot, and if possible, use something else.

basicly ant fruit or veggie could be made into a pipe
    steel socket
wood but i try to avoid that too
go to the plumbing section of your local hardware store....it is like heaven for a homemade lover like me...dont get anything copper either.

    Well...
Actually, you need to look up the stats for aluminum oxide. And even than...

    Basic chem time:

Al is a highly reactive substance. In fact, upon exposure to air, it immediately combines with oxygen to form Al oxide. Consequently, all air-exposed Al is coated by a one molecule thick layer of Al oxide.
So that's what you would be breathing.

The heat required to seperate the bond between Al (to which the layer of oxide is attached) and Al oxide is the crucial figure. Not the boiling point.

I'm too lazy to look it up.

    ^ thats good info

the temp that AL oxide seperates is much lower than the boiling point, so even though i dont know the exact temp, i would asume a lighter would be plenty hot enough

Uhh I don't think window screens are made of a material you'd want to smoke. Try faucet screens.

Here is a question....if i make a homeade bong and use aluminum for the bowl, will the water filter out the harmful chemicals in the tinfoil?

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

Hahah...this whole thread reminds me of the days when I used to only use home made stuff, before I was old enough to buy my own pieces. I remember using like herbal essences bottles (got a real kick outtta that) and crayola markers, then just putting a tin foil bowl in the marker shaft, which I definitely don't recommend.

yeah, moral of the story is find someone over 18 and drop the ten bucks to get a glass one hit! My friend IS 18 and he chooses to keep with his little glass pipe. They're easy to hide, cheap to replace, and I'm sure better tasting than tin foil.

Thanks for the advice on the hookah screens too, I'll keep that in mind!
