I don't think there's anything wrong with private messages in general. Some people don't want everything they talk about being broadcast to the whole world, especially if it's something personal. Saying nasty things about others in PMs though, is way more cowardly than thumbing down a post.

people aren't just abusing the thumbs down, a lot of random posts get thumbs up for no reason too. not necessarily bad posts, but for example, when someone quotes another post and says "this" and that post gets thumbs up but not the post that they quoted .

also, imaginary being is clearly trying to artificially increase his post count by spamming periods.

 

it is a very nice way of saying ''stop being a dick''....no mention of ''future consequences''

yeah, he edited it. 10 of his 15 posts in this thread are periods, and the others don't tell anything useful. i only realized he knew who it was because someone quoted the post where he said that before it became a punctuation.
