I never understood the point of the thumbs up/thumbs down thing initially (as it's really no different from the rep system except it's anonymous), but very quickly I did. I've seen a few people on here express annoyance publicly on the boards at people who have neg repped them, so it can cause needless and pointless arguements. Thumbing down is simply a way of neg repping a post anonymously, and therefore eliminates the silly bickering that can happen as a result of actual neg repping.
I didn't see that post before I made that reply to Glen. I admit that I'm not so good at reading posts which aren't there.
I Think You Made Your Opinion Of Me Quite Clear Before You Did A Quick Edit... I Suggest You Go And Penetrate Yourself.... Sneers Glen.
... And so my point is illustrated. lol If people could see who had thumbed their posts down, these types of arguements would very likely become a regular occurance on the boards, which would probably result in a lot of people simply choosing not to thumb down in order to avoid such silly confrontations. In which case, having the system at all becomes rather pointless, especially when there's already a system in place for repping people's posts.
I think if the system is being abused, it should be simply removed entirely, or at least, only allow posts to be thumbed up. Making public the thumbs down would I think, defeat the purpose of why they were made anonymous in the first place. It's a good alternative to neg repping, as unlike neg repping, there's no chance of potential arguements kicking off on the boards due to it. When there's already neg repping in place, where you can see exactly who it is who has neg repped you, then making the thumbs down public as well would pretty much negate the need for that system, as it would be no different to the neg rep system itself.
there is no need for either system i think skip just added them to stir up the shit pot and watch the flies fight like seagulls over a discarded chicken wing bone
I for one think you guys are awesome, and I get a kick out of reading a lot of your posts. Let us not take people opinions of us too seriously, online or otherwise :2thumbsup:
I don't even use Facebook. lol I frequent a few messageboards, and as far as I'm aware, this is the only one that has a thumbs up/thumbs down system. Although one other board I frequent does allow you to "like" other's posts, but it doesn't allow you to dislike them. Edit: Why one earth would anyone thumbs down Drbonzai's (above) post? :\
it is quite obvious from reading many of the ''downed'' posts that some people here are being dicks about it... too many ''innocent'' posts being slain by anonymous drive by shootings....it is cowardly lighten up nancy:2thumbsup: smartest post you ever made... lolfag not only that...the thread rating system gets abused too...couple of posters down rated several of my threads because i out-bullied them in a verbal rumble
That is true, but didn't you make this thread in the first place to tell people to stop taking thumbs down on their posts so seriously and personally? I think the whole reason why the thumbs down are anonymous is precisely because so many people would take them too seriously, and as a personal affront. You are right about many of the downed posts in this thread, but people are making way too big a deal out of them. I think keeping downed posts anonymous is necessary to prevent a sharp increase in arguements and ill feeling on the boards. However, the system is being abused, so maybe the thumbs down option should just be erased. As if people know their thumbs down will be made visible, most simply won't use the system, making it's prescence here redundant.
