As far as dirt is concerned, I suppose the boldest places are public restrooms, although it really doesn't bother me much. I sometimes don't like touching the doors, taps etc with my *hands*, because I'm far more likely to transfer those germs to my face and mouth... whether eating a snack (I often eat snacks or cookies on the train :)) or just flicking a stray hair out of my face, etc... and my feet stay on the ground and the germs aren't likely to get anywhere where they'll do harm. But if the floor is really sticky it does have a bit of a yuck factor :)

As far as 'true risk' is concerned, walking trails in thick leaves (tree stubs!) and also a while ago I went on a weekend trip with a bunch of colleagues, and we went for a bit of a walk at night, w/out flashlights... In Drenthe, walked up to one of the dolmen... now for who doesn't know, those are the big graves made out of huge rocks, but they put a circle of much smaller rocks around them too.. most of those smaller rocks are gone but there are just enough left to really mess up your toes if you were to run into them in the dark :p And closer to the road were all those little poles to keep the cars off the grass, and a small ditch... I walked pretty slow & careful there!

The place I'm most worried about being told to wear shoes is on airplanes... I will be flying come summer, and I don't like flying. It's fun if it's really smooth, however once we had some turbulence and that was no fun at all! Now while it certainly isn't the only reason I go barefoot, my barefooting definitely has some religious/spiritual factors... and I'd really, really, hate it if I had to put on shoes (and basically disrespect the Earth mother) while walking up to a plane I don't really trust to bring me safely to my destination in the first place! It'd be like requiring a Christian who doesn't like flying to board cursing aloud! I'm hoping for a barefoot friendly airline and also good weather -if there's storms I'm changing my itinery regardless of what I'm having to wear or not :p :p :p

I have never been in a Target barefoot, but I have been in there shirtless several times and have had no problems but I havent done it as of late and I dont know if they would still allow it or not. Ive heard from people on here that they are sort of anti-barefoot/shirtless, now is this some new rule they have or is this just the experience youve had dealing with certain employees there? I would really like to know personally.

I don't like cold feet and surely don't have the balls to go barefoot outside my house until end of spring.

so...if you go barefoot in wintertime, and you feel comfortable with it, it's ok. i will wait about 4 months, then no shoes until september :)
