my choice to eat meat can also be called murder, with perfect legitimacy. its not unnatural, but it does involve the taking of a life. but looked at from the perspective of the fetus, which anti-abortionists claim to do, but really don't, isn't it better to not be born, instead of becoming addicted to living, in a world that doesn't want you? looked at from my perspective, not being born into that body, into that family, means a greater likelihood, of being born into a different body, to a different family and home, where the chances of growing up to a happier and more fulfilling life, are then greater as well. (maybe even on a happier, safer and more gratifying ('alien') world)
No, the killing of an animal is never murder. That's not what murder means. But many people believe that killing a fetus is murder and they do have a point, not that I agree with it.
Sums up my views on it. I'd rather the kid be aborted than born to parents that don't want/can't support it.
I've read the first post in this thread and that's it. My answer is that I don't give a shit. I don't consider "life" to start at conception. Most people who believe that are also believers in god. Fair enough. But if you think that god designed everything and somehow lost track of abortion and birth control.....either your god is kind of incompetent or he/she/it just doesn't care about the issue as much as you'd like to think. That's just my opinion but I will be happy to account for it after I die if I have to.
I think sometimes abortion is the best bad answer when there are no good answers. I think they should be available, no questions asked, until the fetus reaches the viable age - approximately 5 months. It is between the woman and her God, should she claim one what S/He would judge. period If one claims the Christian God, He does not condemn anyone to hell for even "murder" ( IF one were to be so foolish as to believe removing a 2 month old fetus equates with murder) to hell. He doesn't require perfection. I think it proves that many women get pregnant that don't want to be, and there are probably a billion reasons/excuses why "it" happens to each one. Being young and stupid just once is an honest reason we all can claim. Only women are the only ones that can get pregnant. \ Your last sentence seems so sarcastic, it's almost ridiculous whereas you were going ok there...
Not to be overlooked is the fact that no birth control method for sexually active people works 100% of the time. If those women were okay with getting pregnant, they wouldn't have been using birth control.
Yes, I have and as little as possible these days for me....I do like seafood, and feel badly whenever I order lobster, knowing that my order of them was a death sentence....as they were alive when I walked in the place..........so it does cause dual , conflicting emotions...I want to eat lobster/poor thing is going to die because of me....(
Well, I certainly am not going to drive myself crazy afraid to walk outdoors or even indoors wondering if there are ants or any other bugs where I will step. I do a keep a pretty good eye on what I walk on...although, not possible to do in grass...and grass has feelings, too.....btw..... I cannot draw the line nor want to.... My only point was that these right to lifers that are over the top, and I am not saying anyone here is...........was that.....how do you feel about that cow over there that just got slaughtered to feed you, and sometimes that poor cow had a horrible life, living in unforgiveable conditions and in pain and slaughter might have been horrific....are you passionate about them, too? It is man's vanity that makes him think his life as a species is more valuable than the others.
This entire thread is built on a false pretense, and does not deserve any serious response, other than to point out that false pretense. Babies are not aborted - fetuses, embryos, zygotes, are aborted. There is a gigantic difference. You might as well talk about the abortion of human adults, and it'd be just about as accurate. These things have different names because they're radically different. *edit* actually, we could be talking about the abortion of human corpses - after all, a zygote can become an ebmryo which can become a fetus which can become a baby which can become a child which can become a teenager which can become an adult which can become an elderly adult which can become a corpse - therefore, aborting anything at any stage is aborting an elderly corpse.
So... vegetarians are murderers too? :dizzy2: How do you deal with all this guilt? What about animals that naturally attack and kill other animals? Does that bother you? What should be done about them? It seems that a sane person has to draw some lines here. We're all going to die, one way or another. Death is just the natural end of life. I do strongly believe that farm animals must be treated humanely, with serious penalties for violations. Most farm animals would never have been born, if they did not have food value. Most species have also been domesticated to the point where they have no remaining survival skills, so this is a special case. They are forever tied to humans now. We have to look after them. They have rights, but they aren't pets.
If you're not an autotroph, you're only stealing life from those who can photosysthesize. Also, humans are somehow not natural and don't deserve to eat, because we're know what we're doing.

If I were a god, I would have created a world where nothing had to eat anything else for survival. I have said this before.....but since I am not god, nor do I really believe in a god, as the fallacy is in the way life is......I accept the way life is, but it still hurts me to see or think about. and I never said vegetarians were murderers, nor are meat eaters...... draw the line....I will always feel sad for certain things......but i AM NOT GOING TO THINK ABOUT It ALL OF THE TIME...OR i WOULD WANT TO KILL MYSELF.....NOT TO BE FUNNY.....i DRAW THE LINE TO SAVE MY OWN SANITY., sorry for cap lock....there.
the drawing of any line is always an arbitrary act. but there are practical considerations. the only observable distinction between humans and any other chordate species, is the degree of drive we have to express ourselves creatively, which in tern, is what has enabled us, to so surround ourselves with our artifacts, as to be able to imagine ourselves a different kind of thing.
