We have achieved a state of home-ness! Saturday afternoon, as expected, the dog lost his mind and we had to peel him off the ceiling. Of the three, my personal cat finally realized it was Dad and got in my lap. The wheelchair the government provided is a bit on the snug side, well, a lot of snug. But it gives me mobility as well as using the walker. It does hurt considerably to use the walker, so I have to be very careful to not do any further damage to the hip joint with the still-broken bone loose in there. Still not in my 'nest' as hoped (it's dangerous to try without my large son to support me in making the step down) but that will come in time. So I'm sitting on the side of the bed to type this. Not very comfortable, but it works. Pint of vodka, a diet coke and a pack of smokes all at hand. Yay! (P.S.The pain med only helps a little.) Basically this is going to be "Patrick's Life Vers 2.0". Nothing is where it was, but to see even some of my books there in the bookcase and other familiar objects is practically heaven compared to where I've been for 6-1/2 weeks. All the tools are here, but we're still in the process of organizing them into function. Elixir of Time is in order. Probably 6-8 more weeks before more normal-ish. Hopefully I haven't overdone the 'Too Much Info' thing with my writings, but it's helped keep me somewhat sane knowing someone is reading them. So, everyone, thanks for following along as this goes on. Hip is starting to hurt, so I'm out of here for now. Maybe see you folks tomorrow. --- Patrick
Still hurting. Gonna be that way for awhile it seems. Moving around some with the walker, which is good, but causes the hip joint with the loose bone fragment to hurt later, and legs to swell up. Just figuring it all out as I go. Wish there were more sexy movies on the cable system. Once a week, one network will run a "hard R" flick, but they're so damn boring. Will post status reports now and then. Meantime, I'm back to scanning the threads and forums. Yay!
I understand that you must be upset and bored. But it will always be better at home than in a cold hospital. I celebrate that you are better and I hope that very soon you can be dancing.
Hope you'll mend soon. I guess that's the up side of being in a wheelchair; unlikely to ever break a hip, right? Well, welcome back to the "HIP" forums!
God the pain... What a PAIN! I hope it has lessened up a bit for you. I bet you'll have a bunch of stuff to say when you are feeling better... so concentrate on that healing thing. Get well soon!
Saw the surgeon's Assistant Wed. for new x-rays. He and I looked at them together and I could see immediately there was some rounding-off of the ragged bone fragment. We agreed that 'We're getting there', though ever so slowly. It was good to see actual visual proof of progress. Heartening. And the pain on standing with weight bearing has lessened as well. Maybe 6-7 more weeks to go before a semblance of normal-ness. But hey, I'll take it if I can see the progress.
That's the spirit, Brother! You're an example for us all. Continuing improvement; no place to go but up! It took time for me to adjust to life with one leg, but most humans are nothing if not adaptable! You are in my thoughts.
