thou shalt not kill?

with so many different translations gowaccurate can anything in the bible be? how can you beleive anyy one word is accurately what god intended? how can you even be sure the original text didnt say dog everywhere it nowsays god?
where is the original hand written hebrew text as supposedly dictated by dogs (oops sorry god)?

 

as with all good literature, when in doubt, consider a translation within it's own context. obviously, in the bible there is much warring and killing going on without a blink from god. therefore, murder seems to be the most sensible translation, unless you're being cranky.

 

Hmm, lets see, we still have the original text available to us, duh. We can find somebody who can read it and ask them "does this say "dog" or "god". My goodness man, talk about unreflective.

 

where is this original text? if it existed wouldnt it be on display somewhere & have millions of christians flocking to it to bask in its glory?
if we have the original text as refference why are thereso many poor translations? with a book as important & well examined as the bible supposedly is, wouldnt it make sence to make every version & translation match the original text exactly?

how do w choose wich version is the true bible? the king james version with all its ommissions? how about the readers digest cndensed version?

 

Well we have the dead sea scrolls, which contain every book of the OT as well as some other stuff. They are on display in various places, and Christians do indeed flock to them. The Torah and Talmud exist in the original Herbrew in millions of copies, the original greek text of the new testament also exists in millions of copies. All of these can be compared to one another to check if they are accurate. Your supposition that somehow such substantial changes as "dog" to "god" have been made is 100% groundless. If you want to make that claim fine, but please at least try to make some kind of intelligent substantive argument for it. Without any evidence there is no reason to believe that such siginificant changes have occured.

No they don't...teh dead sea scrolls were only discovered last century.....and over half of them have not been released to the public (in original, or copy) by the catholic church.....and they certainly don't contain every book of the OT (or are you privvy to some information the church has held very secret?).

There are no original texts from which the modern bible is taken....if you know where there is, please tell us.....because I and about 3 billion christians will be on the first bus there

There are bits and bobs on display in various museums etc...but there is no original written material that comprehensively covers the entirety of the whole bible....

As for the "other stuff" you mentioned in the dead sea scrolls...wot other stuff? the Book of Enoch maybe? the book of Jesus? didn't mary magdeline scribble down few hundred paragraphs...and Jesus' own brother of course.....there are many books found amongst the dead sea scrolls, books held from the public by religious dogma.....why is that do you think?

Please provide proof that the Dead Sea scrolls contain the entirety of the OT...because i've read far and wide on the subject...and most people who have had an opportunity to study the scrolls disagree with you.

 

changing kill to murder & back again a few doazen times isnt asignificant change? every version of the "truth" has been changed..distorted, to the point that there isnt enough truth left to be worth examining

how do you rationalize 1 verse sayig thou shalt not kill or murder & another saying go forth & kill murder & rape everyone in sight?

 

sooo..ok one bible says thou shalt not kill (i may be just a psycho heathen godless fool but even i know ALL killing is wrong)
and another version says you will not murder (so does that version also say you shouldnt want to fuck your neighboursass & you shouldnt steal from anyone who needs it more then you, but its ok to steal from anyone who has more then you)

so, does that mean its ok to kill as long as your not convicted of murder?
i fail to see the difference between kill & murder since they both result in just another dead body

Many generations of christians have been reared and taught "thou shalt not kill" as a commandment. The pedantic application of semantics does nothing except obfuscate the point soaringeagle is trying to make.

Historically speaking, the KJV has been used for some centuries, so it's influence has spanned any number of generations, and it is this book and it's effect upon generations that is brought into question.
Translational quibbling is the christians preferred method of hiding from the profusion of blatant biblical inconsistencies.

i think i'm finaly starting to understand..what it really means is thou shalt not kill unless your a christian killing non christians (which includes animals which we know are most likely budhists) or if your killing bcause a christian leader told you to kill.
is that right?
