I was just struck by this statistic. Assuming it's true, how did that happen? I'm thinking official denial might have had something to do with it. During the Soviet era, there was lots of denial that bad things like serial killing didn't happen in the Soviet Union until folks like Andrei Chicetilo (murderer of 52 women and children) and a bunch of Hannibal Lector types like the "the Alligator" and the "Bellinski canniba" turned up. Currently, Putin's Russia has one of the hardest lines against LGBTs,and "gay propaganda", which they consider a threat to "normal behavior", so I'm wondering if that "solution" and the mentality behind it is part of the problem?

I will consider that although I have personally never seen a marriage or relationship like that. So it's hard for me to view marriage like that. I think marriage can be done it's just most people are not willing to be accepting. They think more often than not when you are Married you have the right to change your spouse. There is no way that anyone ever will be able to stop people from same sex relations. No matter what they do or what power they believe in, it is just not possible. Lot's of girls like other girls and some guys like other guys for sex.

Just like nobody will ever to be able to hugely expand the narrow world views of the insanely religious. Reality is extremely complicated and intricate.

It IS possible. It's just like saying its immpossible to control your temper no matter what you do. There are discedit stories. Being gay is an inclination rather than something your born with.

 

I think it's possible to suppress one's sexuality. Whether it's desirable to do so is another story. I think it would be highly risky to encourage homosexuals to enter into heterosexual marriages. The success rate of marriage is problematic enough without adding that burden to the picture. Assuming promiscuous relations are out, what is left would seem to be a lifetime of celibacy. Some people can deal with that, but most would find it unattractive--being denied the special intimacy that comes from a stable, loving relationship with a person one finds attractive. While to heterosexuals, the ideal marriage would be between a man and a woman, that relationship might simply not appeal to homosexuals.The major objection you seem to raise against homosexuality is greater prevalence of STDs, especially AIDS. But the risk of these diseases can be reduced by safe sex practices and being selective about partners,.Monogamous relationships among homosexuals would be highly desirable in this regard, which is why gay marriage should be encouraged

The South produces MILLIONS of these guys. Just imagine an army of clones, marching in step, as far as the eye can see, clutching their bibles tightly under one arm. It's just as bad as the Mormons in Utah; the guys just don't wear white shirts and ties everywhere.

When they marry and stay in a small town, they can go through life rarely encountering anybody who is significantly different. A miserable life, but no more or less miserable than the guy next door has, and it's all supposedly worth it because of rewards from Jesus in the next life.
