As someone who likes diverse functionality, I'd like to say the limited abilities of widgets does not mean they are against, opposed or restrict functionality.

one could even say they facilitate functionality by providing the bare minimum required to complete the task freeing up time, energy and resources for more critical things, like sprockets.

The word widget is a placeholder name for an object or, more specifically, a mechanical or other manufactured device. It is an abstract unit of production.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widget_(economics)

EDIT: I remember in college there being econ problems that would use the term "widget". I thought it was strange. Hadn't heard that term before then. Seems like pure silliness actually. Hmm

in our current technological world, a "widget" is the term for simple, one function apps on your computing devices and has been for a couple of decades.
been calling stuff like that "widgets" long before there was an I-anything ;)
I'm guessing that is what GB was generally thinking of

Nerds can try to have fun every once in a while.

    Let them continue.

  18. The widget by its nature creates a deficit of alternatives. Don't ask me how. I am the only one who can see it for what it really is. I have special widget glasses.
