Thor: The Dark World Movie Blurb by Shale November 11, 2013 I was going to see this movie on opening last Friday, but since it was my B'day and since a short cruise to Nassau was leaving on Friday, I left the country and missed the opening. Got back today and picked it up this afternoon. I will say a little about it, tho I suspect that most everyone else who were like me saw it already and those who didn't see it, likely won't anyhow, or at least not till the DVD is released. This movie was liked by 66% of the aggregate critics on Rottentomatoes and 86% of audiences. It was OK, had all the requisite special effects and great looking characters. Took my eyes off Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a moment and realized that Heimdall (Idris Elba) is just an extremely good looking guy - and he didn't even take his shirt off. The thing that made me not jump for joy at this movie is that the story was too convoluted. Too much magic, too much pseudo physics about convergence of the Nine Realms, transporting thru portals and the magical evil Aether, used by the malevolent Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) of the Dark Elves who was suspended from a time before time, etc. Malekith the Malevolent Oh, I could keep up and follow the story OK. It is a comic book story after all and for that reason I feel silly for being critical of it, because what kinda nerd would go to see this movie in the first place? I saw it in 2-D and the fact that they made a 3-D version means they may really be relying on special effects to carry it. Anyhow, the story has more father son rift between Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Thor. Thor & Odin The war criminal Loki (Tom Hiddleston) who escaped trial for crimes against humanity and is out of reach of drones or SEAL Team six, is now pairing up with his bro to fight the overpowering baddies of the universe. Thor & Loki Team Up Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) are in this movie, Jane playing a central part again as Thor's love interest and being in peril in the thick of the action. Jane Mad at Thor for Not Calling I did enjoy the movie and am not slamming it, just thot it was too much of a stretch on many parts of the story. It is a good action adventure movie, a visual treat with scenery special effects and actors. I hope my turning 69 hasn't destroyed my ability to suspend disbelief. That would be a bummer.
Right up there with Chris Hemsworth for eye candy is Idris Elba. We only get a glimpse of his face as Heimdal But that is enuf to get me excited about this beautiful man Idris Elba
I can see how you feel about the far stretched storyline but I guess they feel they could go there because it is all based on mythology and it seems they would incorporate the mythology roughly (I say roughly because it has indeed become a typical comic book story). Anyway, I never pictured Heimdall as a black guy before. Whenever I see the name Heimdall I am reminded of the also very typical italian power metal band (besides the original germanic god naturally). Thought I'd just share this classic because of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVBWjTTa-NA"]Heimdall - The Lord of The Sky - YouTube
