This whole thing about drug testing at work is insanity isn't it?

    I smoke daily . Have for years. I'm now self employed. Very easy to beat a drug test. I drove a Coke truck for 12 yrs ; got stoned every working day ; passed every drug screen and never had any incidents. And , yes , I worked the detroit ghetto. Made 70k a year doing that too.

    On the flip side of that ; if you are dumb enough to fail a drug test or just don't like it. Very easy ; work elsewhere. No one made me start that truck up at 5am every day.

    Lot's of things are illegal like fraud, theft, murder unfortunately there is no pre-employment test for it. I would a lot rather work with a pot smoker than a murderer :sunny:

    Lots of jobs will run background checks on you, and up here when you apply to most jobs you have to check off a box that says you have no criminal record, so those things serve basically the same function.

    You fail to understand one of the key failures and fallacies of drug testing.
    Simply by virtue of testing methods and drug half-lifes, marijuana users are exponentially more at risk of losing a job over their off the job recreational use.
    Yet a meth-head can party all weekend and piss clean in a couple of days.
    Alcohol isn't even tested for on the standard screen, you have to specifically request it, yet alcohol causes more workplace accidents and lost productivity than ALL OTHER TYPES OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMBINED.

    So if the objective is as advertised, keeping the workplace safe, than the program is a horrendous failure that by virtue of it's methodology targets the least "dangerous" class of substance user.

    Then you have the entire quagmire that is the legalities and constitutional violations of the fourth amendment and all.

    As I previously stated, follow the money, the whole thing was contrived, sold to the Reagan administration and then implemented by I believe one man behind the two biggest testing labs.

    Good business model and one that has been successful time and again;
    create a "problem", then be the only one that has the "solution". ;)

    On the face of it, it "sounds" reasonable, but just scratch the surface and the stench starts to permeate the air.

    Now that marijuana is legal in two states, do you think it should be removed from the screening?
