This whole thing about drug testing at work is insanity isn't it?

You crazy Brits ;) I'll have a few of you lunatics at my house for Thanksgiving. I'll have to ask them for urine samples before they can stay here.

Hoppi you say that the dr. Asking for pee is voluntary but work asking for it is not? They are both vountary. Nobody is making anyone go to the doctor. And nobody is making anyone work for someone that piss tests.my work took one when hired and takes them when there is an accident. If i have a problem with that i will work someplace that dosnt test. I actually have a problem with the random tests my new company does though. They are just trying to get rid of people so they are testing all the people that have jobs that wont be missed much. They call it random but it isnt.

In theory this sounds fine, but I'm under the impression that:

    a) More places test than don't?

    and more importantly

    b) Testing takes place even in companies that don't have safety-critical positions like pilots or surgeons.

Really I think there should be more laws to control this.

The solution to this would be to just make pot legal in the USA.

There are detox products being advertised on local television stations. Isn't that a solution to the problem?

well, even if it's possible to totally clean up your urine right before the test... that's great and all but it's such a shame that the actual system is broken. It's the principle that it's a violation of privacy and shouldn't happen unless absolutely necessary.

But... shame that one or two voices from the "bottom" so to speak make so little difference :(

It is an invasion of privacy. I get the feeling that if you drank some detox product before your urine test, your employer might later call you into his/her office and say, "Well Mr. Employee, the good news is that you tested negative for illicit drugs. The bad news is that you tested positive for detox product. The worse news is that you're fired."

And if you sued the employer for wrongful termination, the judge would probably look at you and ask, "Why would you feel the need to drink detox product unless it was for the purpose of covering up illicit drug use?"

Of course, you could claim that you happen to find them more satisfying than soft drinks or gatorade.

But then the judge might say, "What in hell are you talking about?! Detox products taste like shit!"

However, you could come back with, "Well now your honor, just how have come to know about that?"

On second thought, don't do that. You might not see the light of day for quite some time. Just go out and find another job.

I had a friend who came up with the idea that before hiring into a place, you demand that the owner of the place take a drug test because you have no intention of working for someone who is a user.

I couldnt tell you about the detox drinks but from what i here its a tea. If you get fired for drinking tea then your boss is looking to get rid of you and the reason wont matter. They can always come up with any reason.

True enough. An employer could simply call you into his office, and after you leave, accuse you of coming onto him. Who do you think a judge is going to believe, a guy who owns his own business, or an out-of-work gay guy?

EDIT: Disclaimer: In no way was my use of the term "gay guy" intended derogatorily. Some of my . . . second and third best friends are gay or gay-like.

Ah,but the out-of-work gay guy had his mobile phone in his shirt pocket on 'record'.
And Mr Employer has got to explain to the jury why exactly all that can be heard is 'slap' Ouch! 'slap' PLEASE,sir, don't hit me again! 'slap, slap' Ok,Ok,I'll bend over your desk AGAIN like you insist-just please don't hurt me any more!

I think the reason this dosnt bother me as much as some people is because there is so much worse invasions. Like the government getting involved with what i do in the bedroom. Forcing me to buy products i dont want. The size of soda i can drink (yay they got one right) what kind of bottles i can buy at what time despite the store being open for business. I could go on but when it was just random piss tests i wasnt getting angry.

I suppose. This does feel like one of the worst to me though.

It's like being at school again and having the headmaster checking you all for drugs. Except now it's the government and companies. SO big brother -ish it's just mad!

Honestly, if it was work and put up with this silly rules or not work, I would be either self-employed or nothing. It's just not worth living in their pocket.

Here's how it sounds to me:

    "You! Come here."

    "Who? Me?"

    "Yeah, you!"

    "OK, what do you want?"

    "Pull your dick out."

    "What?"

"You heard me. Pull out your dick."

    "But why?"

"Because I said so, and because I have the authority. Now pull it out and piss in this cup."

"Why do you want me to do that?"

"Because I'm going to anylize it and find out if you do things I don't approve of."

"Fuck, man, you can just ask me. I'll tell you!"

"Nope, don't trust ya. Now pull it out and fill this cup."

    "Well, what if I don't?"

"Then I'm going to make things very hard on you."

"Well can I turn around so you can't watch?"

"Yeah alright. Hell, I'm a decent guy."

just saw an article about a ball player who wont go to the yankees because they will make him shave. now drug testing is one thing and one thing that is illegal but is forcing someone to shave not an infringement on their rights? really not a big deal, after all there are 29 other teams that want him and 10 other teams that can afford his asking price. but how can an employer say what i do with my physical natural body?

how do you know that from drug testing?

    can it?

does drug testing ensure none of your co workers do drugs? is it not ok to smoke a doobie on the weekend, but ok to have an alcohol problem? having worked in a drug test environment for a long time I can say testing did nothing to make anyone safer. it's illusionary, just like the TSA gives the illusion of security.

Slowly but steadily the rights of all Americans are being stripped away, some of these have been gone for a long time, such as drug testing at work or school, but others are just now becoming popular. The Man has always tried to suppress our natural freedoms as people and this is no different man

The only difference as far as I can see is that now a significant percentage of people actually seem to welcome and enjoy it!

    It's like Stockholm Syndrome!
