any time you bring race into the equation - you are being 'racist' because you are implying 'race' has something to do with the equation. racism is not always about negativity either.

that being said, this thread has less to do with race (IMO) than it does with a completely horrible culture we live in that causes kids to THINK they have grown when they are not even mentally mature - mentally matured as in their brain, physiologically even near maturation.

our culture glorifies teen pregnancy and commends those mothers for their 'bravery'. and what's more sad is that these kids are being scared into believing that abortion is evil, a sin, morally wrong, etc etc - when in actuality, bringing that child into your own nightmare of a life is more evil and damaging as a whole cultural structure than to killing those cells before any cognitive function is even present.

They are likely doing this for the unconditional love of a child. Maybe if these girls were raised by loving parents who met their emotional needs, they would feel secure enough to wait.

Yeah, this is not true. It's not just an "urban black girl" thing, come over to my neck of the woods and you'll find plenty of white high school girls, from poor families, for whom this is not only a badge of honor, but a means of employment. And let me assure you, there's no shortage of willing sperm donors (of all creeds and colors) prowling around all night, stealing shit and impregnating everything they can, then sleeping until noon only to do it all over again the next night. Idiocracy is one generation away.

I say, let them try a dog out first - plenty of unconventional love there, and if they can manage to keep a dog alive for a year without it getting beat to death, running away or biting someone, onto step two:

    Parent Licenses
I think there needs me licensing system for parenthood. You either pass the test, or you don't get any kind of government assistance. Questions like: Is it alright to feed your baby cola from a bottle? T or F. Should you ever put your baby in a microwave? T or F. Should you let your baby play with your baby's daddy's fighting pitbull? T or F. Is it okay to leave your baby in the car while you go drinkin' and clubbin'? T or F. Is it safe to leave your baby with strangers in a crack house while you go out hustlin' for some more money for your dope? T or F.

They're probably all knocked up by the same guy.

That picture is pathetic. If you're that stupid to get pregnant in high school and be proud of it...just ugh. They don't even look as if they're mature enough to handle sexual relationships, much less motherhood.

Can I please point out that not all girls that get pregnant by the time they are 18 are bad people.

I had my first and likely my last child at 18, I worked my fucking ass off in college and came out with perfect results, despite the speculations from others, and I stayed in college every single day until I was 36 weeks pregnant (my waters had already gone!) when I graduated, even went back for our final art show with my 3 week old daughter to help set up and speak a small lecture.

Yeah pregnancies that aren't planned and happen at a young age aren't ideal but jesus, we arent all brain dead idiots doing it for attention.. infact I felt more ashamed than anything that it had been me to get pregnant young, not what I wanted or expected and I definitely would NOT have done it to be popular. Please don't stereotype :(

And just to clarify, I wasn't brought up in a bad environment, had both parents around, was intelligent at school, had friends already so no one to 'impress'. My pregnancy was completely out of the blue, with a long term boyfriend and whilst using protection.

I now have an extremely intelligent, loving, empathetic 15 month old toddler, who is amazing in everyway and will have just as much of a chance in life as any other child despite the fact her mum is a teenager. I'm qualified and currently becoming a trainee with the idea of setting up my own small business once I've worked my way up from trainee. I have my own place that I pay for and my own car.. oh and I have NO friends because the novelty of having a baby wears off when your friends realise they'd much rather out clubbing or drunk.. but I do have a smart, funny, loving child who I will bend over backwards to provide for because she's my world and my responsibility. So yeah... Not all idiots. Don't get me wrong, I DO struggle and it is hard, sometimes hard that I do need some government assistance, especially as I'm doing it all alone now, no family/friends/dad involved.

I'm sick of stereotypes. Teenage mums are just as valid as 30 year old mums. Age does not define the type of parent you are. There are shitty parents in every age category.

Some of these 'opinions' are so narrow minded! It's insulting to us parents who had our kids young.

It's actually hilarious that people think girls do these 'because its cool and makes you popular'. Are you f'cking serious?

Yeah, sooooo popular bringing up your child/ren on your own and having no support and hatred everywhere you go. Maybe if people weren't so judgemental of teen parents they wouldnt have such a bad name and Maybe, just maybe some of these young mothers wouldnt suffer PND and anxiety because they're scared of going to simple places with their babies for fear of idiotic people ranting to them in the street about how they look down on them.

Have some respect, you do NOT know the situations in which most teen girls get pregnant.

    Well said sazzles.

It sucks because I get judged everywhere I go because I have a child, and it really is so unnecessary. It makes me question my parenting..I MUST be a crap mum because everywhere I go thats the kind of shit people (who have no idea of my circumstances and do not know me) dish out.. I've had to work so hard to prove people wrong and I shouldnt need to be made to feel as if I have to prove anything to anyone, none of us should!

Obviously this picture isnt a great example, but the girls in the photo might all be loving mums, they might have jobs and work hard at what they do, you really don't know.

    It is discrimination.

Everywhere i go with my kids i get tutted and stared at, its not nice for me and it certainly isnt nice for my kids! NOONE knows our circumstances, they just assume the worst.

MamaPece isn't the only proud mama to stand strong and raise a joving child on her own although I must admit it was likely eaiser within the communal/tribal setting of tne old Haight.

btw; MamaPeace I'll try not to mention what you said about having no friends to certain folks in the house. lol HUGS

I am not judging anyone who has there child at a young age. I am result of a teen pregnancy . I am just saying that since at the tv shows & such the % of teen getting pregnant have raised. That is because mtv is selling it & trying to make it look cool. That is what I find said. I am not saying all girls are doing it because of that, but I am sure there are some girls that are. I know how hard it can be I watched my own mother go thru it. My dad was no where around. I was raised by my mother & grandmother.
