To say that Londoners were stunned by the sight of a barefoot man on the tube is nothing short of absurd. I have travelled barefoot on the tube many times (including on the Piccadilly, though I don't think this is me) and never noticed anybody stunned. I have noticed a few amused grins but the vast majority display no interest at all. A typical journalistic overstatement.

I agree. I traveled to Piccadilly every day for 17 years and it would take a lot more than a barefoot guy to get anyone's nose out of their phone or free newspaper.

I saw a guy strolling down the street with a parrot on his shoulder in London once. I would have been barefoot. No one seemed interested.

I saw a guy with a trained squirrel in a park in London. He was feeding it but the squirrel was on his lap! I thought it was strange to see a squirrel do that. I guess it learned he had food...

Yeah! I came across a whole load of pet squirrel accounts on Instagram. I hadn't realised how affectionate and friendly they could be.

There was probably no news yesterday. All must be well under Boris. (No twitter?)
Or he was just practicing for the Armageddon to follow.

That's just to much work going barefoot in a place like that.

I had a squirrel in New York City jump on my lap while I was eating an apple. Totally unafraid of humans!

I was barefoot on the Piccadilly Line today. Nobody stunned as far as I could tell!

Yep I spent a whole evening there bf the other night, including the Circle line. Amazingly, again no one was stunned....in fact a distinct lack of fucks was given :grinning:.

I used to live in London, traveled to and worked the market in Camden everyday barefoot. Journalists were obviously down on real new stories, cannot any longer pick on lgbt or ethnic people so find the next non-conformist they can low-key bully.

The media are full to the brim with cheap sensationalism. Reporters have those pages to fill and when even bullshit "news" like this one are lacking they just make up some weird completely inane news to full the gaps.

Having worked in the media, I must sadly admit the truth of this. We call them "human interest" stories.

I never did a story about anybody going barefoot, but if I did I definitely would've put it in a positive light.

England's mass media is going in the same direction as the US, and even Fox News has moved in. Money talks, and barefoot people riding the tube get thrown in jail, as the price of freedom continues to go through the roof in the free world.

I'm pretty much barefoot all of the time and travel on public transport exclusively and I have never had this " sensationalist " coverage. Perhaps the odd comment now and again but on the whole nobody notices or gives a flying ****.
