I have always loved mocking classic heavy metal bands such as Manowar, Maiden, and others (having grown up listening to them, and listening to much better and more technical metal now)... I first watched this movie after continously laughing at Manowar's song "Power of my Sword"... it was a holy experience.
this is such a great movie - too many classic scenes to mention, but reiner did a fab job with this flick! one of my fave scenes is when the band gathers in front of Elvis' grave and tries to sort out their harmonies for "heartbreak hotel" what about "a mighty wind"? same genre, same actors - i like what they did with the folk scene, i was pleasantly suprised
Funny fucking movie. one of my favourites. I went through a phase were before I slept every night I would pop in this movie and watch it. It's just fucking amazing.
when i saw the movie, it was on one of PorSFiS's campy movie crawls. this was back in the early 80s. there is/are several 'spinal tap' websites on the net. one of which has some free samples. "listen to the flower people" is one i listen to a lot. with, as they go along, perfect matches for some of the sounds of some of the bands that were 'big' 'back in the day'. essentialy it WAS 'back in the day' (or almost back in the day, it couldn't have been more recently then about 83, cause that's about the time i saw it!) when this movie was made. possibly some time in 78 or 79. to put that in perspective, the internet had not yet gone public and the ibm pc was still 8 bits. i think we watched it along with darkstar and buckaroo bonasai in the 8th dimention. haven't seen "a might wind". did see, and knew someone who had, an actual 33 1/3 VYNIL of smell the glove though! with the classic cover photo. for real! the spinal tap fan websites are for real too btw. =^^= .../\... =^^= .../\...
