Hmm I've heard that milk can contain blood/pus also. Actually,I thought that's why fresh milk is strained before drinking. To catch that stuff..and of course, any bits of straw, etc that have fallen into the pail. Well,I don't know how many people milk into a pail or not...but it still applies,I guess.
    I don't know if that's true or not,about the blood/pus...just what I've heard.

you all are hilarious with the pus.

some westerners will argue that milk is bad for you. what they are refering to is the body's inability to fully digest milk. this, however, is only the case with the milk we tend to buy in stores--milk that is processed through homogenization. non-homogenized milk doesn't sell well because it looks disgusting; the milkfat is separated from the milk so it's a bit on the 'chunky' side so you have to shake it up before you drink it.

personally, i can't quite handle non-homogenized milk at this point in my life but i have no issues with processed milk so i drink it instead. still, i only buy "organic" milk that was collected from dairy cows that live happy lives and are not given any hormones or fed grass with chemicals. i think milk and all the products that it derives are absolutely wonderful and i couldn't imagine life without them. i guess it really is no surprise that it is our first food.

suck it up and join the army.

of course we have to kill. its not just human nature, its NATURE! animals kill whatever animal they can kill (even if it's the same species) to make it easier for them to live, without having to fear for their life that that other animal will kill them... thats natural selection, holmes. humans have spent a good 100,000 years being forced to adapt to carnivorus animals and poisonous plants. we've adapted for so long, now it's everything else's turn.

granted, if things dont adapt like they should, we'll run out of resources and our race will collapse, but we'll just have to work at it again.

yeah, but if you've ever seen a real cow in a real feild, you'll come to realize,

    cows are fucking stupid.

i think maybe the only one that the cow would be worried about is the cage thing.

    humans>stupid cows.

As far as the pus thing - I guess anything can have pus in it if you PUT pus in it. But, again, milk doesn't contain pus unless it comes from an infected gland.

And there's no "straining out" of blood or pus. If milk's got this stuff in it, it's coming from a seriously sick cow, and obviously shouldn't be consumed, by human or calf.

    (Or cat.)

It's sort of like saying that you don't eat apples because apples have worms in them. Everyone knows apples have worms - we've all seen the little cartoon apples with a worm's head poking out!

    Gross.

Well, a good fresh apple won't have worms, or bruises, or squishy, rotten, stinky brown stuff, but you don't avoid apples only because you've heard that some apples might be bad.

And good fresh milk will be wholesome, not chunky, pussy, bloody, or anything else.

I mean, EVERYTHING can go bad, turn gross, be yucky. Ever smelled rotten tofu? WOW!! Nothing quite like it. I used to make about 1,200 lbs of the stuff a day, and, believe me, when it goes bad, it's truly disgusting. Really rancid.

But, it never stopped me from eating the good stuff!! Yummy tofu.

And to me the cream on the top of a gallon of raw milk is not "chunky". It's "creamy", because it's...well...cream!! Yummy cream. Just put some in my coffee. Lovely.

I'm not trying to convince people of that they ought to drink milk, just trying to point out some misconceptions! There are good reason, health reason, ethical reasons, not to consume the stuff if you so choose, but the "yuck" factor was never a compelling enough argument to me.

I mean, if we were going to let the "yuck" factor dissuade us from fun stuff, we'd have to drop a lot of rather fun sex practices, I think.

    I mean, talking about mindfucks...

If we're squeamish about bile, blood, pus, shit, meat, muscle, various smelly, slimy, and /or chunky secretions & humours, gross squishy, pulsating, wet and otherwise not at all pleasant bits of organic stuff - that's entirely what we're made of!

Our houses are coated with the dead cells that have flaked off our body, our air is filled with the accumulated exhalations of millenia of damp lungs sucking air in and spewing stinky breath out.

The water we drink has passed through the digestive tracts of thousands (millions?) of other living creatures - it's seen, up close, what the tip of a hyena's penis looks like, or the colon of a fat man.

We are made of yuck. It just happens to be contained inside this nice skin bag of ours, more or less successfully, but every now and then, some does leak out, much to our dismay and the dismay of those nearest to us.

It reminds of an old Ray Bradbury story, about how we have skeletons inside us. Those creepy, spooky, ghostly haunted things - inside. It was a great story!

But my point is, the whole "yuck" thing is never a good way to approach life. "Yuck" is a useful biological reflex that can keep us from eating something that is truly bad for us, but the human mind, being so good at taking things way over the line at any given opportunity, can sometimes amplify that healthy & natural "yuck" reponse to deny us opportunities that could be fun, ethically harmless, and maybe even good for us.

Like sex. (good and good for you!)
And ice cream. (good and good for you - in moderation, but perhaps ethically questionable)

Jack - all I can say is "yuck".

And I feel fully justified saying it.

Perhaps! I don't doubt it's nutritional value. And, from a healthy man, I'm sure it's safe.

For me, though, there are other cultural considerations, you could say, that prevent me from partaking.
