I grew up with someone who said it all of the time, too...and was an emotional hostage just about all of my early life.
At 16, I was so emotonally distraught as it was....but I was always kind anyway.

It's the media that is causing the increase I believe. Or that is at least a part of it. I'm sure there are other factors as well.

I grew up with someone who threatened all the time too.

We all got sick and tired of it after a while. But still always tried to stop him. It went on for years.

He then ended up moving 7 hours away...a year or two after he moved he ended up actually killing himself.

It makes me realize you still have to take people serious even if they threaten over and over and don't do it.

He was my best friend for years and years.

More or less I'm as over it as I can get... I'm really not but I don't think about it all the time now..

Yeah, I know, and I do....take it very seriously....always did.....even though I heard it over and over again....hence being an emotional hostage until they died from natural causes.....:(

I guess I feel like this whole thing is tragic.

It's tragic that so many people lost their lives.

It's tragic that his own flaws, his mistreatment by others, and whatever else led to this came together to produce this result.

I just don't think that things had to be this way.

I think a psychopath is gonna do what a psychopath is gonna do. They don't have empathy for others and are prone to kill. I don't know where this guy got the idea that life is all sunshine and rainbows, it's not. Didn't anyone ever tell him that not everyone is going to accept or like you... you just deal with it. That's life.

On another note, I thought he got in a car accident during the shooting, I wasn't clear if this was intentional on his part. So I guess he did commit suicide. He was probably scared shitless of going to prison. I shouldn't even be joking about this, But I stand by my previous convinction in saying that he wasn't gay. If he was gay then he'd probably embrace going to prison. Think of all the butt sex he could have racked up there.

I think scenarios like this are pretty common. Often its a girl/boy friend who threatens to kill themselves if their S.O. leaves them.

It's good to help other people, but someone doesn't have a right to hold other people hostage.

Ultimately everyone has to take responsibility for their own life. Hopefully others can help out along the way, but there's a limit to that.

    What increase? Mass killings?
I do not know what - if any - mistreatment he encountered.
I think we can all agree being spurned at 10 (if true) is bs.
I am not going to read 141pages of his manifesto.

How could it have been different?

I'm guessing that if you polled gay men, most would not look forward to being in prison or getting ass raped.

I don't think it was simply this guy's destiny to become a mass murderer. There may be some genetic element that made him more likely to do this, but I suspect that if he hadn't been bullied/bullied as much, he probably wouldn't have done this.

I suspect that psychopaths are part born and part made.

I think he very well may have been spurned at 10.

What's unusual about him is the fact that what happened when he is 10 was still eating away at him.

I wasn't referring to any gay man. I was referring to Rodger's, who is questionably gay. And it was a joke, but since he was so desperate for sex then you'd think he'd go for butt sex.

    Prison.
I don't think homosexuality works like that o.o

From what I have seen he seems self aware.
I do wonder if it was similar to the film "rope" an intelectual exersice etc

I just read another article about how he invited friends over to his house and was planning on holding down women that have rejected him and raping them. A seriously fucked up individual.

Do you think a lot of men have thoughts about rape/murder?

I just came across photos of two of his victims. I thought he was after pretty girls that rejected him and the types of guys that they went for. He shot two scrawny, nerdy asian guys..

I don't think she was being anti-asian per se.
I'm sure if an Asian lad took her to the mall and then a movie she would go.

Apparently one of the asian roommates he shot was accused of stealing Rodger's candles.. Good reason to kill someone. (sarcasm)

"Another of Rodger’s roommates, Hong was mentioned at a Saturday press conference by sherrifs, who said Rodger contacted authorities to report a roommate had stolen his candles."
