    Don't let this distract you from the fact that on this day in 1996: Jeff Gordon led 148 of the 342 laps to win a rain-shortened Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. It was Gordon's 12th career win and his 2nd consecutive spring victory at Bristol. It was also his 2nd straight win after he won the previous race at Darlington Raceway. He would go on to win 10 races during the 1996 season, but fell short of the season championship.
