Thinking Of Starting A Community In Taos

Hi guys,

I'm a gardener who is into permaculture and living off grid.
I am living in a house on the mesa(past the earthships) with solar power and 20 acres of fenced land.
I would sure like to find some like-minded people to work with.
There's lots of space here(and great views).
I have thought about joining a community but this situation came up recently and it seems like a great place to start a community.
I have a well, small barn, fenced pastures, corral, etc.

Lots to talk about but if you're interested let's start a conversation!

 

Well , I know the area you are speaking of . It's a beautiful place to starve . What's your opinion
on goats ? Have you met Sparky ? Can you be relaxed about surrealism ?

 

Goats? I would like to have goats.
Are you thinking milk? What about Angoras producing mohair?
I have not met Sparky.
As for surrealism, I tend to like it, from what I've seen.

When you say beautiful place to starve, are you referring to the short growing season?
And it is windy here. I plan to plant siberian pea shrubs for windbreak..
Are you in the area?

 

i'm not there right now . I did meet again with several Taos friends at the june-july Rainbow gathering in Utah .
Sparrow mentioned her goats were doing fine . Sparky had just settled into a more-developed place that's got
a grande' cistern .

of course i'd being thinking of milking goats and then roasting baby goats too . happens to be the dog that hangs
with me now is a goat lover herding dog . i don't know quite how much goat-feed your land could give , which is
also the question of how many goats to have around . might have to trade something for feed . oh, well , Taos
is an extreme trading town . And then you got Spanish surrealism , Indian surrealism , Hippie surrealism and all
the while survival can be getting down tough and low . it's easy to find a friend there .

what do you think is good glue for a community ? i think of language .

 

The doritos locos tacos are pretty good

 

along the road from town center going east to the forest and right at the edge of Taos just before the
road gets twisty there grows the wild plum . its at the end of its season now , and you might still find
some seed for cultivation . living at the base of a steep , rocky incline i've noted it may collect moisture
there as well as some warmth from the sun in winter . would a stone wall do ?

 

Roasting goats? You mean like throwing them a party? :clown:

I like the nigerian dwarf goats. They actually have very high butterfat content..
I've never raised them myself.
I do like chickens and will be getting a few next year.

I think the glue to good community is respect and communication but underlying this would be clear rules/methods for decision making and conflict resolution.
I like the bylaws at East Wind community, are you familiar with it?

Interesting about the wild plum.. perhaps I will check it out.

I haven't met many people since I've been here, largely because I tend to be a home body, but I enjoy the vibes in town(well sometimes it's a little crazy)..
Is Sparrow or Sparky on these forums? Any advice on connected with like-minded people around Taos? :alien:

 

Clear rules and methods get me soul crazily annoyed . You could go into town and find the one person
who is sometimes tho not always annoyed by me . Hogan . He plays the guitar a lot , and I thinks he gets
along ok by giving lessons . While Eccentric is the only like-minded people I know , and Hogan is One ,
Hogan is clingy to a couple tedious , helpless , anti-surreal notions . I'm sure it's compulsive practicality .

I think you're interpreting clear rules/methods as limiting.. I'm all about personal freedom, but if you want goats and others don't, there has to be a clear way to resolve these things.. It's empowering to the members to know that things are done fairly and it's not a popularity contest.
I may have seen that guitar guy. There's someone I see playing guitar along the road once in awhile..

Anyway, I created this post to get some feedback but I realize if i'm serious I need to create a web page and get that core group who want to work together.

if you don't want goats to eat thy permaculture - speak goat .
