So pretty soon, I'll be 62. I've been working since I was 13 and I'm thinking of drawing social security and giving up the regular workaday life. No income other than the soc. sec. unfortunately. I have some ideas on how it can be done since I live pretty simply and the only modern thing I need is the internet.I thought I'd ask y'all if you have any ideas on where and how I might accomplish it.
Start preparing, give yourself a year till you drop out... Preparation is everything. Get growing now, veg fruit etc Get some chickens, Learn how to make jams chutneys etc..these are great for using up the worse of your crops, and can bring in a dollar or two.. Prepare, and good luck...happy living
Blow up your t.v. throw away your paper Go to the country, build you a home Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches Try an find jesus on your own C/S, Rev J
I'm 62 myself and I'm holding out until I turn 66 before I draw social security. The benefits you get at 62 ain't squat. They're no picnic at 66 either but they're more livable, and I'm not holding out until I'm 70 for the maximum benefits. So my advice is to hang in there for 4 more years before you apply.
Shit man , if you are used to living poor then ain't nothing to it. My own ss came to $350/mo ssi give me an extra $400. Way I live I can save $500 /mo unless something comes up (you know how that always happens). But I was able to borrow and buy a 3/4 size diesel IH school bus with only 100K miles on it, took me near a year to pay it back. Live in it on my sister land outside of Alb., run a cord for 1 light seldom used and my computer power cord- less that $5/mo, and run a hose if needed but I usually take spit baths. Then took off adventuring to S.A. - that didn't pan out too well, but got that near paid back too. Now have 3 credit cards and a debit card, so I don't have to borrow from people usually, just have to pay off my cards... but as I said @ $500/mo saved that's pretty easy to do. Don't sweat it man - life's meant to be enjoyed. Mind (might) as well, just gotto think right I don't do medical so that's 1 big expense too many have that I don't
In a similar vein - after many a year of working - "Turn on, Tune in and Drop out" does seem a attractive option Good fortune in your endeavours
I dropped out 30 years ago. All you have to do is find an intentional community that is set up for income sharing, and agrees with your your life style. There is a good web site devoted to helping find and build intentional communities, and there are probably a few in your area. The web site is....http://www.ic.org/directory/
