I am glad no one was lost or hurt last night ! although it must be costly to carry out a search like that I wont put a picture of the bridge on here but there is one in my photo gallery if anyone wants to see it ? I dont think anyone would be able to swim to the side after jumping from that height but you never know ?? Never mind all's well that ends well as they say
Runcorn Railway bridge deck to the water below is 75ft. Not a lethal height for bridge jumping for the prepared. possible death to those that cant swim, out of shape ect..
Its higher than that (the road bridge ) Google says 82 Ft at high tide ? Not that it really matters no one was hurt :2thumbsup:
"1.) A fall from 30 feet will result in a velocity of roughly 44 ft/s = 30 mph. 2.) A fall from 100 feet will result in a velocity of roughly 80 ft/s = 54 mph. 3.) A fall from 150 feet will result in a velocity of roughly 97 ft/s = 66 mph. 4.) A fall from 250 feet will result in a velocity of roughly 125 ft/s = 85 mph" Ive read, people in shape can survive the 150ft. fall, but after that it gets interesting.
its not just about the height.its also depending on how weak or strong the current is at any particular time.
That is so unfair for the person driving the train. If someone wants to throw their life away, they shouldn't do it at another person's expense. No kidding.
AFAIC if someone wants out, let'em do it. If they survive, they have to live with the consequence. Was it a failure or a success? But then these guys can tell you about distance falls- http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...0-foot-fall-parachute-fails-article-1.1291265 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...vives-13000ft-jump-after-parachute-fails.html http://foxnewsinsider.com/2014/01/2...lously-survives-skydive-after-parachute-fails

I was on a train in 2012 that a young man jumped in front of. and ended his life. It was pretty traumatic, but even more so for the train staff and the driver. What disgusted me more than anything was the people pulling up by the train and pulling out their cameras and phones to record everything.
People used to always jump off the bridge that goes into sandy hook in nj. They did it for fun it was deep and close to land. It was high but not too high. One time a kid jumped off and a boat came from under the bridge. The kids foot went right through the boat. Broken leg and other injuries but survived.
I think every kid goes through a jumping off things stage. We used to drive way down this logging road and jump off the into the into the river. It was maybe 15 metres, and really fun. We also used to jump off the overpass in the middle of town when logging chip trucks were parked under it. We stopped when a buddy hit a crossbeam in the top of the train and also broke his leg... *nobody ever accused any of us of being too smart in our youth.
