Understood. My main beef with winter is indeed the cool temperatures--I have very little tolerance for cold. Being a female, I am probably a bit more wary of walking alone in the dark than you are. But I do enjoy a nice night walk, from time to time, especially if I have company. I have a lot of good memories of warm humid nights sitting by lakes and in grassy fields, having conversations with friends until the wee hours. The darkness provides you with that comforting sense of anonymity, too. You can feel like a different person at night.

Yeah i love wandering around at night solo but being a woman prevents me from doing it very often. Maybe if I lived in a big busy city but here in the burbs you just know someone is waiting in the bushes somewhere for you in the quiet of the night

I totally agree. This is also how I feel about race and, to a lesser degree, religion.

I'm betting it's been here before, and I didn't go back to check, but, seeing this on anyone, anywhere, makes me angry.

Yep. I turn into a vampire once darkness comes. :p

You're right though. The crazies do come out at night. Even for me there were times of fear. For a women i would imagine it being worse.

That hat represents this country losing respect around the world. A respect that a lot of us served the country to maintain. And this draft dodger, like predecessors Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, who didn't want to serve when they were called, and later wanted to be Commander In Chief, has managed to lose all respect from our allies.

    Instead of that hat, perhaps we should all start wearing a hat like this;

Really? I would have thought that was more likely in a city.

I hear about people getting mugged in London in the middle of the day and wonder who'd want to live there.

I guess it depends on the neighborhood. When I was in Manhattan I never really encountered an area I felt unsafe in at night, although i'm sure Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens have some unsafe areas. I'm sure Manhattan does too but it seemed mostly bustling and well lit to me.

In a city there are usually people around to hear you call for help at least. Whereas I live in a quiet neighborhood and it really creeps me out to walk around at night, it isnt very well lit and if someone tried to do something to me, no one would be around to see/hear me

Learn a martial art. You're quite strong and fit, by the sound of it?
There are plenty of men these days who are at as much risk as a woman, and women can lessen their vulnerability.

Remember that in quiet places, a potential mugger would have to wait longer for a victim. Might not be worth their time : )
But I have no idea of your local crime rates and also I am over confident in this area.

I genuinely get more scared of make believe things, which I know is absurd.

Yeah i'm pretty scrappy, I actually feel pretty confident in my hand to hand combat abilities lol, but in the good ol' US of A if someone wants to commit a crime they're probably going to have a gun on them

I know i'm being mildly paranoid, the area I live in is relatively safe but also last year my friend's boss was kidnapped at gunpoint and held and raped for 3 days before being dropped back off at her car naked and just...not in good shape
Stuff like that might not be common but it happens enough to make me not want to go anywhere alone at night

  14. Cities definitely feel more safe to me.
I can get mugged by a druggie or something. Eh.
I was assaulted once, but I managed to get away before anything more serious could happen.

But I feel like in the suburbs or in a village a twisted serial killer could be lurking at nights. Normal neighbour during the day, psycho at nighttime.
And no one would hear me scream.

    *shrugs*

  16. I used to browse reddit unresolved mysteries a lot. Oh boi, that kept me up and scared a lot of nights.
Basically, a lot of things could go wrong and we are never safe.

Well that's horrifying about your friends boss. Would scare me too.

This is why I like living in the countryside : )

Asshole coworkers. Even if you work from home, you still have to deal with them.

There haven't been many cities I have visited where I felt particularly unsafe.

I had a somewhat scary experience late at night in a bad neighborhood of Queens. Certain areas of New Orleans made me feel a bit iffy. Even then, I didn't feel panicked or in imminent danger; more like I was being watched.
