I do. I don't think there's a single Pearl Jam song I dislike, though quite a few, that one included, had to grow on me.
That's what I heard today that prompted my post : ) yeah its a great song. Don't think they wrote that one though.
My best friend driving 250+ miles to visit me today. Be arriving in about an hour. Dragon signing off.
What Commute? The schools are all closed, every non-essential worker or anyone who can work from home as been instructed to do so, business chains are shutting down, the colleges have all been shut down, the NBA, NHL, seasons have been put on hold, every museum, aquarium, and historical attraction was ordered shutdown from the bunker hill monument to the old north church, The one thing the apocalypse/end-of-world/doomsday movies never predicted was that Church services would also be cancelled, so you can’t even die together with your fellow parishioners.....lol..
Yeah apparently the other poster was talking about an entirely different show when they said the plot was all over the place. So I'm excited again. As far as TV being a waste of time... I kinda agree but am also guilty of falling into the TV trap. Yes life is to be experienced and not ignored while you binge something, but sometimes a show is special enough that watching it becomes the experience. Some of the most popular shows in existence are ones I've never seen an episode of (big exception being Game of Thrones). But there are shows out there I just relate to so much that I'd swear they were specifically made with me in mind. Pen15, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and Runaways all have moments that could be a snapshot into my daily existence. 5 years ago that was barely a thing. TV used to be aimed at the most basic audience and now it seems they (whoever they are... producers I guess? Idk) have realized there's this quirky fringe part of the TV audience. Its exciting. And then there's Gilmore Girls which parallels my life in so many ways it's almost spooky
thank you! damn, it's on amazon, i don't have that one. i actually saw the first two episodes on IFC at my friend's house and thought it was great, but then it was suddenly off the air for some reason. i assume because it was good and tv stations just won't have that. tell that to my boss...
Oh, I agree. I don't judge anyone else as wasting their lives if they watch TV for 3 hours a day even, anyway.. I'm a believer in the concept that we cannot write off behaviour as a waste of time on anyone else's behalf. We can only know what we're meant to do with our own time. There probably are more shows I'd enjoy, but I don't check things out until I've had them recommended by enough people, or certain people, or whatever. I think it's Netflix we have to thank. Traditional TV relies on good ratings, if a show doesn't get good ratings it's not worth them running it. Netflix doesn't care, because they only need the subscriptions. They can afford to take risks and show things that only appeal to a minority. I realised this when reading an interview with Charlie Brooker about how BBC dropped Black Mirror and Netflix is the only reason it could continue. Yeah, it does impress and please me that the quality has gone up. Films too. The quality of art seems to rarely go up, in my lifetime.. So it is really cool, I agree.
I'm not really qualified to comment on what tv and movies qualify as art but there is this level of inclusion and understanding in media that makes me very glad. I never saw anyone like me represented in mainstream media before a few years ago. Now, it's a lot more common. Fresh off the Boat wrapped after 6 seasons, Crazy Rich Asians was the sleeper hit of 2018, Awkwafina went from You Tube comedy rapper to Oscar nominee, Pen15 was a critical success, and Runaways featured a lead who was a queer Japanese girl. And she was a badass superhero !!!! A few years ago that was unheard of. Not to mention the straight/queer bff story in Booksmart, the all female Ghostbusters and Oceans heist movie, queer and Asian representation in Star Wars. It's like all of a sudden the media recognizes that straight white men aren't the only demographic in existence. And as someone who is the polar opposite of that, this is all very exciting. Sadly, the internet is full of people who identify as straight white men who are disgusted by this diversity. That part makes me sad. But oh well. All revolutions probably happen incrementally
