    Maybe, but God has become far more than that, hasn't it. God has become a person that we are certain exists, rather than an unknown cause that we merely speculate about. God has become someone who likes us, and dislikes "them", whoever "they" are.

    It is my belief that, if we were truly content, rather than eternally trying to either take from others or preempt their attempts to preempt their attempts to take from us, we would be able to muse on abstract issues such as where the universe came from, without having to formulate rigid theories without basis which we then defend like absolute truths.
     
  2. Yeah, rather than something to ponder on scientifically, it's come to represent something inside of us. Something very ugly. "Me over Everybody".
