I think VG just has a warm fuzzy idea of what's going on down there. Spend a few months in one of these camps and he'd be bawling like a great big baby.
Im far from the only one The “concentration camp” language debate is the wrong fight Go damn, 144,000 just in one month??? Didnt realise it was that many, thats twice as much as last year And you lot wonder why they are overcrowded, under resourced And this is somehow Trumps fault, what the hell is wrong with you people?
Everyone is really caught up on semantics. Concentration camps, detention centers...who cares what they're called? Are the conditions in these places, the separation of children from their families and the time delays for these people's cases to be heard acceptable? I think it's bullshit. We can do better.
You're so right. Oppression in the US? That's ridiculous. *cough*cough* CONCENTRATION CAMPS *cough*cough*
I'm pretty sure anyone with friends down south who want to emigrate illegally into the United States probably does warn them, "Hey, you could get locked in a concentration camp." If you evade ICE, though, you're home free. Welcome to paradise!
No. (I often just barely skim unfocused's posts) But i did go read it just now and he didnt compare anything to Auschwitz. He compared the mentality towards the Jews as the same. And is he wrong? Someone in this very thread called migrants "things" Same sort of dehumanization. The Holocaust didnt happen overnight . People have to be conditioned to accept such things first. No one wants to hurt people, but to hurt a thing is a lesser deal. Look at the level of acceptance shown in this thread towards what, by any normal standards, are inhumane conditions and unconstitutional indefinite detainment Oh but they're given foil blankets so it's fine, practically a country club..
Exactly. The real humanitarian disaster is what you call our prison camps. But at least private prisons (spoiler alert, big campaign donors) are reaping a fortune. As US communities resist ICE, private prison companies are cashing in If there are public prisons, there is no added incentive to keep them as long as possible. Private prisons have lobbies for longer detentions. And so the do. Detention Map & Statistics — Freedom for Immigrants
Note the propaganda ploy. When rational arguments for detaining asylum seekers and children in squalid conditions fail, bring up MS-13. "That's what they all are!" No wonder you like our Prez. Send that man a MAGA hat!
