Yeah. Me too. I have a group home in Washington DC that needs a wheelchair accessible bathroom finished tomorrow so they can move back in this weekend.

But I'm thinking about staying home tomorrow with my heating pad and my bottle of Midol...

yeah because I have NEVER worked with those darn people with disabilities. Those peoples lives are just awful! They can't work, have to stay in a wheel chair all the time and drool...please go to barnes a nobel and read the books I have shit in so you can learn how to be less prejudice and assuming that someone's life is awful because they live in a group home. Read my research about inclusion leading to none conservatorship rights...read my literature I wrote for advocacy campaigns and conferences...and then come back here and insinuate that I am frivalous and have nothign to worry about than my midol.

i am much more effective making kids feel special all day. women usually work very well with kids...imagine that. was that horribley sexist? Because if so maybe you could get a man to actually apply for my rec positions as I haven't had a male applicant since I was hired.
What is so wrong with men and women working together in society at what they are best at? I ahve to pick up a hammer to make a difference? Why so I can be less affective and hit myself with it a million times. I can't hammer, like I can't join the military, but I do not bash the military or hammerers.

I work for a contractor who takes on non-profit organizations. We buy properties and convert them to shelters, group homes and specialized access homes. I make shit for pay and I do it gladly. I love my job. How do you figure I'm prejudiced? Explain your way out of that.

I never said before exactly what population I work with, just that I work for a non-profit because I do not think what population iw ork with is important or makes me more special, because they are just as capable as everyone else.
I used to be an ILS counselor for adults with disabilities and after they became independent enough to get a job, then a full-time job, then a bank account I taight them to manage and then their own apartment and then sometimes even a condo or mobile hom (in sa diego!) I learned I was in no way special for working with them because most of them were more self-disciplined and capable than I am. I just got out of the inclusion field last year and am really sensitive about people living in group homes. I think theere are better alternatives that are more dignified

 

I think that is a fab idea and what you should have done in the begining if I bothered you that much. Or you should have had the guts to adress me personaly.

But for the people I work with that's just not possible so what they have beats the shit out of living on the street with no health care (which is their only other alternative). So I'll keep building because that's what I do. You keep writing books because that's what you do. And in 20 years there will be two group homes for handicapped people, mentally ill people, battered women, parentless children and homeless veterans on every block. That's how fast they're growing.

Or you could work on social solutions. I don't do social solutions. I do short term problem solving. I make it possible for a legless Vietnam Vet to shit, shave and shower with no assistance. That's what I do. Kitty's opinionated assholes in suits keep these people in group situations when they absolutely should be included in EVERYTHING.

 

Your pacifism is appaulling and so is everyone elses in this thread. If you all hate america so much and are so better go to canada. we don't want to hear about how much you hate people who are dying for your freedom or how little you care about society that you just sit on your ass and don't have a job or a cause that benefits society.
