Someone actually 'high fived' her for inundating the board with 20 so-called 'contradictions' This is not helpful to overwhelm any topic with too many 'points'. There was a poster here called Mahai Bodai who would employ the same technique of 'Overwhelming points' making it near impossible to reply to any one post with anything less than a 40 pager lol. But ya,,, keep in mind the Devil himself employed the technique of 'out of context' scripture quoting when he tried to tempt Jesus in the Wilderness! Not to compare Bre to the Devil but just saying its a common 'scheme'. In the case of Pauls Epiphany the writer (I think Luke??) does not seem to think there is any 'contradiction'. That is explained when you use the Hearing Vs Understanding translation/context of the original greek text. But never mind even that. A good example might be if I was to phone your office. You have me on speakerphone and everyone in the room can hear me. You take me off speakerphone and we speak in private. Later someone reports that I spoke to you and everyone else there remembers hearing me on the phone too. Later yet, someone notes that I spoke to you about something in particular and while everyone saw the phone - they could not hear what I told you. There simply does not meet the requirements to be defined as 'Contradictory' reports. Neither does Bre's summary of the two comments on Pauls Epiphany. You are free to say its 'brief descriptions' or dislike it for not specifically mentioning every part of the time line. You can even complain that you will never know if there was a contradiction or not... but, sorry, no.. that does not meet the definition based on what we do know - even if you choose to translate the word 'heard' into the strictest most literal definition.
Mathew in full 69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. Clearly on the third occasion he crows here. 56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. 57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. 58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. 59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. One the third attempt he denies him and immediately the cock crew. 38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. There is no contradiction. thus far. The cock crows three times in each reference. The first is more vague in the sense it doesn’t depict each denial but it says when he has completed his denial of jesus, the cock did crow. But fully it states: 66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. 68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. 69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. 70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. 71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. 72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. Thrice he denies him and twice the cock crew just as Jesus depicted it. As mark depicts it however the first denial gave way to the first crow but the others support jesus statement. Either way the cock did not crow twice till he had denied him “thrice”. So all in all, its only a half arsed contradiction. And not that much of a big deal to render the Christian faith otiose...but i admire your ability to copy and paste questions one should have asked in sunday school *winks* screw fourty pages for a bag of chips.lmao....but i agree...it would take all bloody week to take all the scriptures..one at a time eh?
first of all i can spell and use grammer but it internet chat so i just type and dont look at what ive written. as for backing things up you guys have your heads so far up your arses i wouldn't waste my breath. if you cant see what im talking about in the bible theres no point explaining it OH and yes i have been abused by christians the world in wich i live has been and is being screwed by u basteds.
If we look at the whole of Jeremiah’s statement, or the whole chapter as it was, he explains the people of Israel to god as a girdle. They cleave to him by the simple laws and morality he put forth in his teachings. But the sin of men left them corrupted. He wanted men to awaken to the guilt and dangers that lay ahead of them if they continued with their claptrap idolatries as we go further into it, Jesus depicts the sin of the people, And how they are like vessels of sin, that would, if allowed to continue unabated, be judged by the lord god for their indolence. He exhorts them to give glory and thanks to god by repenting their sins, otherwise, they would be carried into darkness. And as humans the possibility of eternal damnations and foreseen misery hits us like a hammer to the head because we are not unfeeling. Sin is the thing that destroys the soul and shapes us so we may never be free of it by our own way. It is near impossible to reform. Jesus uses the example of king Jehoiakim, and his queen to portray this. With divine grace by the sides of even the lowliest of people, even the most impossible of feats will be achieved because to god, the impossible is a mere speculation. It is fair to say the words of Jesus were harsh but he was speaking of how sins will be the undoing of the people. The king and queen both advocated indolent lifestyles and thus the people followed it by examples. Jesus said not to let their behaviour be the undoing of the people in the ultimate kingdom of god. He spoke harshly knowing his harsh words would hit with a pang of self-pity and unworthiness in the eyes of god. But then, as always, he speaks in a more loving tone and tells of how he and god would help them speak their sins and be clean in the eyes of the lord our god. Harsh? Scare tactics? Maybe. Then again… sin is the undoing of the soul. And spiritual people knew this and knew they from that point would not live in sin for the lord spoke to them and they had seen the way as it were. Violent in speech, but where’s the contradiction in acts? he never committed to hurting anyone physically in the exert. He depicted what would come to pass if they advocated such lethargic and self-serving behaviour. Jesus was a merciful and indeed a great man through which god was a merciful being to all sinners who would hear his word. And by hear I mean understand. the exodus quote comes directly from a song of moses. the most ancient and holy of songs to most christians which shows god through all his divinity and humanity. its said to be typical and prophetical of the final destruction of the enemies of the church. it highlights his holiness through his hatred of sin and his intolerance towards the stubborness of sinners also. he said he loved all of man but he was dreadful to the enemies of the people. he never once denied that himself as the flooding of the earth would have most people see and the casting out of eden and so on. the matter of his wrath, that was never hidden at all. those who comitted unnatural acts and did not care or repent were justly punished. or so it is believed and stated by moses in this exert. but we must remember this was the song of moses in thanks for freeing the slaves by awarding safe passage through the red sea. the reference to "a man of war" is, he knows his enemies and can act accordingly. this was merely opinion by moses though and not an alround depiction of godbeing a paradoxical war lord come peace loving hippy. kinda like jesus and the sword thing. openmind, thats kinda shitty. its unfair to lump all christians into that category of bastards because they upset you. i'd say for every one that upset you there's about 3,000 who haven't if not more. i don't see a sense in out and out insulting everyone on a christian forum just cos one or two put you out in some way. it's a bit ignorant really.
Im just going to add my two cents on Bre's #2 and #3: 2) Psalms 145:9 "The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works." But in Jeremiah 13:14 "I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them." This one is definately not a contradiction unless you want to subjectively assume the Jeremiah passage was carried out with bad intentions. Without getting into the whole story - In Principle God is ultimately doing a good service to all by mercifully destroying those who will cause pain and suffering in the world. So, there is 'good to all' and 'mercy on the work' if you look at it that way. Again, IF you are going to start by taking the text 'as it is' then follow through and include the Fair Judgement it says is being meeted out for the greater good and mercy of all. That is not really a very good example to use as a 'Contradiction' at all. Its not even really in the same type category imo. 3) Exodus 15:3 "The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name." Romans 15:33 "Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen." <So which one is he?> No Contradiction here and not even a 'confusion' or even a 'problem'. Perfectly straightforward - He is both. i.e. Warring against Satan is how God will bring about Peace. This doesnt even deserve to be on any contradiction list when nothing whatsoever is even pointing that way?!
its so brave of you to post that...i think the reason of guilt is perhaps a little of what i have experienced....i too had been at an angry stage with God and just said that there is no God..but my guilt was present because deep down i knew there was a God and i was scared because he seemed so very far away in my time of need. In our times of need, it is then that God is with us the most. All you have to do is reach out to him....pray....tell him what's wrong...ask him to show himself to you...even if u look like a dork....i kno God is there now...he is what keeps me alive...i will pray for you, roly.xx
good poin troly. fear can either drive you away or towards god. i think people eventually find their way back. hehe...its quite sad this really http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Styx/2347/f1.html you wonder why it matters so much to people in retrospect like....it's kind of sad people aren't just content with their fellow man...hmmm
There is no God looking over you, there's no such thing as sin or virtue : the Bible is, of course, false. I mean any random bloke can write fairtytales like that, provided their literate. Either way, God doesn't give a fuck about you and when you feel "God's love", "Jesus love", etc it's just your brain playing tricks and endorphins... It's exactly like when you fall in love and believe the other person love you, it's just BIOCHEMICAL... Or maybe your God is shooting you up with those endorphins. If someone is self-contradicting on the forums, people will think he has limited intelligence. But, of course, since it's the holy bible even if it's stupid, it's grandiose. Much like a tweaker who know sthat there are narcs, machinations, ninjas, trolls stealing their lighters, etc... After them. While it's just random shit happening. If you disagree, you're wrong.
god never started wars. humanity did. ignorance you say? driven by my calling you that or do you think that a belief means you're ignorant? funny if its the latter but ever be it.
Get over yourself. I only compared the schemes and specifically stated I was NOT comparing you to the Devil. 'You' are not a temptation either. (Sorry) You mean engaging you in a discussion about the innerrancy of the scriptures (a debate YOU brought to the table) is making you RUN from religion? Wow.. you can sure dish it out but throw a mean hissy fit when we dont take it!? BTW.. presumably you think Religions older than the Judeo-Christian one are false too? BTW.. You and AntiMatter should realise that you are only making yourselves believe this agnostic nonsense because its a psychological 'crutch'. It creates a false sense of privacy, tricks yourselves into feeling 'safe' and unaccountable. Also it 'feels good' to believe you can just die and 'disappear'. This creates 'Endorphins' which make you 'feel good' Its just a biochemical reaction guys
And then the goof says Talk about a contradiction. Every one take a look at this perfect example of a contradiction. He first says there is no God, then he says God doesn't care about you. Hopefully all of you claiming there are contradictions in The Bible will learn from this, and perhaps now you might actualy pick up The Bible, read it for yourself(instead of pulling some references off some random website) and learn that there are no contradictions. Openmind, you name can actualy be a contradiction. In your refusing to to acknowledge that The Bible could in fact be true, you are proving that you are not actualy open minded. Also, you have yet to bring anything inteligent to this conversation. Bre, Let me remind you that you came in here stating that there were contradictions in The Bible. I asked you to list some. Along with that list I asked you for at least 5 scriptures before and after the listed scripture. You failed to do this. The reason you failed to do this is because when you include everything before and after, you see that your contradictions are nothing but a wasted attemt at justifying your inability to believe. No one here is attacking you or pushing you away from Christ. You came in here atacking our faith. We put up a defence and you are left with nothing. If you still have an intrest in Christ I will be more than happy to discuss Him with you. It is unfortunate that there are people out there that claim to be Christians yet don't act like one. However, I emplore you to be mature and reasonable about this. Why you ask? Because, not every black person is a basketball player, not every hispanic mows lawns, and not every white person lives in a trailor there for not every person that claims to be a Christian is a Christian. You can always tell a tree by it's fruit. The next time you run into a Christian, see what kinda fruit he bares. I'm off to dinner, see yall later.
There is so many post I can rebuttle but I'm just going to give an overview and from there people can agree or argue with me. The Bible was inspired by God. God did not just write through the men but gave them the thoughts. As one can see each writer of the Bible has a distinct type of writing. But how does one know the Bible wasy trully inspired? Well, through the prophecies of the Bible. The Bible predicts future events before they happen-in detail. Such detail that only God could have known. Yes there has been religions around before christianity but just because Bible was written after these religions does not mean other religions are right. A guy in the black car runs a stop sign and hits a guy in a white car. The guy in the black car reports the accident first and says it was the white car that ran the stop sign. So just because it was written first does not mean it is the truth. Besides which religion predicts future events before they happen? -THE BIBLE IS A COMPILATION OF 66 DIFFERENT BOOKS -WRITTEN BY MORE THAN 40 DIFFERENT AUTHORS -WRITTEN ON 3 DIFFERENT CONTINENTS, WRITTEN IN 3 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES--HEBREW, GREEK AND ARAMAIC -WRITTEN OVER A TIME SPAN OF 1600 YEARS -ALL THE AUTHORS CAME FROM DIFFERENT: WALKS OF LIFE CULTURES BACKROUNDS COUNTRIES TIME ERAS, MOST OF THESE AUTHORS NEVER MET EACHOTHER-- YET THROUGHOUT ALL 66 DIFFERENT BOOKS, EVERY AUTHOR HAD ONE THEME- GOD'S PLAN OF REDEMPTION FOR HUMANITY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST WITHOUT A CONTRADICTION (this is the point that has been left out) -FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END OF THE BIBLE IT ADDRESSES EXTREME CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES, TOUCHY SUBJECTS SUCH AS: *LIFE *MEANING OF LIFE *MARRIAGE *HOMOSEXUALITY *SIN *GOD *HEAVEN/HELL YET WITHOUT A CONTRADICTION -MILLIONS OF COPIES COME OFF THE PRESS EVERY YEAR, IT IS STILL THE #1 SELLER AROUND THE WORLD, THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER LITERATURE ON EARTH *TRANSLATED IN WELL OVER 1000 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES *THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY RELIGIOUS WRITING THAT APPEALS TO: THE MOST EDUCATED YET THE MOST UNSCHOOLED THE OLDEST ADULT YET THE YOUNGEST CHILD ALIKE CROSSCULTURAL, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH CORNER OF THE WORLD YOU GO TO, THE BIBLE WILL BE IN GREAT DEMAND *THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY RELIGIOUS WRITING THAT SPEAKS WITH AUTHORITY-- WHERE WE COME FROM WHY WE WERE CREATED WHERE WE ARE GOING *EVEN THOUGH IT DATES BACK THOUSANDS OF YEARS, IT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME AND IS STILL RELEVANT AND SURPASSES THE UNDERSTANDING OF MODERN MAN -THE BIBLE IS 1/3 PROPHECY AND IS THE ONLY BOOK OF PROPHECY WITH A 100% ACCURACY RATE
CHRISTIANS IN GENERAL???i hate that statement. Jesus said, "The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil." (John 7:7) i like that quote jesusdied for you....very true.
And God said, Let there be light" (Gen. 1:3) and "...And the evening and the morning were the first day" (Gen. 1:5), versus "And God said, 'Let there be light in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night.... ' "And God made two lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.... And the evening and morning were the fourth day" (Gen. 1:14-19). (a) God created light on the first day; yet there were no moon, sun or stars until the fourth day; (b) how could it be known when the first three days ended if there was no sun until the fourth day?; and (c) How could morning be distinguished from evening, if the sun and the moon were yet to be created? ah the contradictions we live for *falls over laughing* well you gave him twenty which was a third of what he asked but still. good google searching. i still can't get over why people wasted their time on those sites.
Bre, how hard is it to understand? I asked for 5 scriptures ahead and after each of the scriptures you use for an example. Does that make sence? Or are you still smoking stuff? That would be a total of 16 scriptures per 1 example. I explained why I asked for this in another post, but apparently, you not only lack the ability to read The Bible in whole you also lack the ability to read my posts in whole. You are attempting to mesure God's works by our understandings. I'm gonna say, sence God created everything, I think he wouldn't have a problem knowing when his day ended and began. I still don't see a contradiction here.
