even in this situation, only if I had exhausted every possibly way in my power to earn some bread, would I result to stealing it. in such a case of desperation though, I don't really think I would care who I stole it from as my primary concern would be feeding my kids.
well, i guess you're right but id still aim for a big corporation. i wouldnt steal from them otherwise but the OP asked "is it EVER right...." you get my point.
When I was younger I took some money from my mothers dresser. She took us to the store and I purchased my self a pepsi and a fudge round. I came out of the store and she was all.. "Where did you get the money for that?" and I was all "Uhhhh, I uhhhh, I got it." and she was all... "From where?" and I was like "Okay! I took it!" So I got in trouble and I havent stolen anything since. I would though. Not from an individual persay, but if it came down to it, I would. I would only do it if I had children and couldn't provide for them. When I say that, I mean I couldn't suppy what the needed, not what they wanted.
There was a phase in my homelessness when I stole most of my meals--walk into a mini mart, grab what I wanted, ran out the door. Lived like this for months. The biggest reason I stopped is after awhile I couldn't taste my food. At the time I didn't care if it was right or wrong. Just thought it was necassary.
I don't agree with your assertation that theft equals violence. But I box, so my opinion on violence may be a little different from yours anyway. But I do kinda see it as beneath me... its petty and shady, and I don't need to steal a cd that I could just buy and cut down on some other luxery I afford myself. I ceartinly don't have a problem with a person who steals out of nessecity... if they don't have food, then they need to eat... but almost all theft in the US is out of gluttony, not nessecity. I also think grand heists are pretty cool, if I'm not sure cleverly robbing a bank is beneath me.
You forgot to mention options C & D... C: Go find a nice busy section of sidewalk & panhandle the cost of a cheap pair of shoes. Plenty of people will still be assholes, but lots of folks who wouldn't give if they thought he just wanted booze would change their minds when he points at his bare feet. D: Go find the nearest Salivation Army -- free shoes without stealing, yay! Or, if he doesn't have any warrants, go find a cop, who will tell you what other places might be closer that will give away such items... Having been homeless myself, I never found any time when I needed to steal to feed myself (unless you consider dumpster diving theft, which some places technically do).
What about panhadling for it? What about taking the bus to a local shelter? What about dumpster diving? What about going from fast food joint to fast food joint, asking the manager for just a little help to get your kids thru the night, so you can get to a shelter or cash a check or whatever tomorrow? There are so many more options out there that don't require theft. If you must, you must, but the vast majority of homeless kids & travelers I've known who stole anything stole stuff they wanted but didn't need (you know, like booze or candy bars).
Whoa!!! This is cool!! I can say anything I want about anybody and they won't be able to hear me. Knocks on dawn skys head, listens to echo........
I believe morals should be all about the emotional impact on someone. If you take a bit here and there, and its not noticed, and doesnt cause distress, then its fine. If its the sort of thing that could have jsut as easily been wasted or damaged on a regular basis, then i dont believe its wrong to take some, caus the owner woulndt tell the difference between dropping stock out of a large container (whereby the dropped stock would just be thrown away) or someone coming by an pinching some. Anything in the way of condiments i think tis fine to take. I believe that if something is being sold, directly, and you can afford it, then stealing is very unethical. Thats the lowest form of stealing, in my oppinion, stealing little pointless thigns that could easily be bought. and i dont have any problem with stealing thigns like signs or other things that are lying around and are not being sold. or taking some ingredients home to make yourself some food, if you work at a food place where they have large, untracked stores. yer thats it, if something is being sounted into a system or something like that, then i think stealing is wrong but if theres something that is not accounted for, and a certain amount is assumed to be used over a certain amount of time, i dont have something against taking some. discretion counts in terms of stealing possessions.. if someone never found out or realised they were missing something.. then i dont think its a huge moral sin. the only thing i see wrong with stealing is the distress one recieves when they find out theyre loosing something unfairly. but in general, i personally keep away from stealing, i just have these sort or guidelines in judging other people's theft, or the odd occasion i do take something without paying.
I had my wallet stolen out of my purse inside my desk at work.. It wasn't a co-worker it was a man in the store. I saw him.. he look shady.. but i gave him the benifit of the doubt and 4 hours later i went to pay for beer (i was throwing a party that night , put a damper on the festivities) and didnt have a wallet... Called work.. everywhere... couldnt find it.. started canceling my credit cards... they had charges almost $2000 to my credit cards. A Year later im still disputing charges... They got my SS # but thankfully never used it... (I have warnings on my credit report and check it often) My checkbook.. all my identification.. I think there sould be stiffer penalties to it.. It took me 2 weeks and several hunderad dollers (that i didnt have cause they froze my bank account) to replace everything.. It was a major hastle..
When I was a kid I would tell myself, "If that store wasn't there--if none of these stores or resturants were there---this would all still be forest, the rivers would still be clean, and I'd be able to get what I needed from the land. So this place owes me a meal. Lol! Since then I've pretty much given up trying to figure out right from wrong. It's pointless, I can justify anything.
