The yearly discussion about Zwarte Piet has started again

Let me chip in too then. Zwarte Piet is culture, not racism.

Sure, but since many foreign people do not agree with me I better stick to my own opinion.

 

Having lived in NL for a little I feel I understand the overall feeling of people that swathe piet isn't a racial thing at least not for most.

 

Some people just need to whine. They probably were teased and called zwarte piet when they were a kid. That sucks but doesn't make a cultural tradition racist.
Most coloured people in the Netherlands appear to have no problem with it. And a lot celebrated Sinterklaas including zwarte Piet in their youths and would not have missed it. Some still do it for their kids but unfortunately others choose to replace it with Santa Claus at christmass. Ah well better than celebrating Sinterklaas with green and yellow Piets I guess

As Geert Wilders said; we should keep Zwarte Piet and get rid of the UN.

 

As long as we don't have a veto right I guess you're right But happily Geert is not the only one who wants to keep Zwarte Piet or it would seem dubious after all (but not make it so naturally). More sensible politicians like Roemer or Markie also agree we should keep zwarte Piet.
I mean if we have to get rid of him where do we sent him to? Zwarte Piet grew up here and only speaks our language. To send him 'back' to a 3rd world country would be cruel.
