Some of these aren't even hard decisions. It really has to be two separate and miserable experiences, each of which cannot have a loophole to make the other seem less appealing.

The choice is really conciousness and suffering but able to use your head, heart and soul to get through it versus complete unconciousness, not suffering but vulnerable and helpless.
