Maybe in Australia. In New York, **** is very rarely used to offend women. Even slut is kind of rare here (it's a more Middle-American white thing, I think). We say, "bitch" for a uppity-nose women. And "whore" for a sexually promiscuous/free women.
**** is my favorite word. I use it all the time and you should see an old man's face when you can him a ****.
It's not about the culture, gender, or upbringing. My own, personal thoughts. Been called a **** too many times to take it in a positive way Resume convo
okay. okay. Slut is a terrible word. The guys that say "oh ya well my gf loves it when i bang the hell out of her and call her a slut!!" if i was having sex with a guy and hes like "ya you lil slut" i would slap him silly. ITS DIRTY GUYS. It's very degrading. It's very dirty, its not loving at all. I guess thats because i adore guys who dont just bang the hell out of you for fun, i prefer a loving type. I will be nobodys bitch. Call me a slut and ur ded!
I don't want a girly man that has to watch what he says. It's a damn word....Go get your panties in a twist over the word fluid. Words only have the power that you give them.
It's girly not to call the person you love a slut? Especially when you dont like it? Interesting. Words have the power of meaning. When a word means something you have to acknowledge it. Slut is a bad word, no matter how you see it. If you only choose what words you give power to then you're going to lead a very confused and naive life.
I don't give any words power over me. That was the point. The word slut is considered bad by society....things change. Words have different meanings through time....so why get huffy about them. Why should they have to watch what they say around you? You can't accept them for who they are? That's sad to me.
Sorry. Noela, the thing about meaning is that it's always personal (as opposed to universal). I respect the fact you don't want to be called a slut. I don't use the word anyway, but the word has a different meaning to other women and in different contexts. Also, sex doesn't always need to be loving and affectionate. Sometimes, it's aggressive. Not for everybody I know...but certainly for me. I love it when I girl calls me "fucker" during sex. As in, "Fuck me harder, you fucker!" HAWT! And that's what I'm talking about (how words do not possess absolute meaning), if a guy calls me "fucker" in another context, he's catching a fist in the eye. :cheers2:
To answer the question, no, these days it doesn't have to be derogatory. IMO it can be a big compliment. Its not really a phrase I'd tend to use as a term of abuse. I suppose the "modern" definition of "slut" is a woman with a noticeable level of sexual "base" characteristics. In its derogatory sense, I suppose its about someone doesn't have any redeeming characteristics other than their willingness to screw. But the word was invented when what was basically a Christian fundamentalism was in force. There's more effective ways of being abusive to someone these days..
The word "racist", in an onlne dictionary, has a different meaning to the one I grew up reading in my "paper" dictionary. racist is somebody who has a belief in race. What you choose to do with that belief is up to you. So there are subsets within the "class" of racist people. An online dictionary seems to disagree with the above.
I agree because the word slut can be applied to a woman who has casual sex simply because she enjoys it. and the word itself does not imply that she has low self-confidence or is immoral/amoral. some people do take it that step further, but by definition those are not necessary implications.
You can talk however you want when you're with people you know extremely well, and who know the actual meaning behind what you say. However, if you're out in public and call a random a 'slut', don't be surprised by a brick to the face
This word is only derogatory to people who think sex is inherently unclean and negative. Words only have the power you give them. Any slur is offensive to the easily offended. Grow thicker skin and get over it.
Look here, ya cracker ass cracker.... I'm pretty well in agreement. Ooops. Forgot to say please. BBAD said it's essential if you're only joking about calling people names. So.... Look here, ya cracker ass cracker.... Please. :cheers2:
