Light has two meanings that have been in use for thousands of years before the photon was first theorised by Einstein in 1905.

One to describe when something isn't that heavy, as in bring me that pale of water it's light not heavy
or when something illuminates, eg bring me a candle i need some light.

So isn't it coincidence that a light particle called a photon has no mass, so light is light.
