i don't think its completely the guys repsonsibility that the "young hippies" forum was taken away... back in the day, when there was a war, we went out and stopped it as was the case of the vietnam war... free love was in the air and it kept everyone inspired to keep pushing on

today there is a war in iraq and the peace effort is stuck in mud and i know why

recently i went to the big anti-war rally in d.c., took my cialus for the big day (a few extra years means i have to prime the pump)... all for naught as i worked hard all day carrying around my big heavy peace sign and so as one would expect from a "real" peace rally back in the day... some free lovin festivities to keep the moral up of the protestors, none was going around

and people wonder why today's peace movement is a failure???

the responsibility for this falls firmly in the lap of the young women

 

and you can't use the argument that i'm not getting any cuz i'm fat... even Sir Brave Rubin isn't getting any has to masteurbate and if some chick out there wanted to be a good hippy, if you searched through all the folds, you could find it so there are no good excuses

 

I raised this point in another thread, that it is how we are raised. You all lived in a generation where your parents to put a lot of things above yourself (family, friends, jobs, values, God, etc.) whereas most of todays youth are taught to be the center of the universe! Appauling, I know, but I hardly think it has anything to do with free love.

Oh, and they didn't take the young hippies forum away, it has just become our "scarlet A" as it were.

I do agree, we need to do more! But why don't you help us branstorm and see what we CAN do?

 

All I know is I am disgusted by some of the apathy and cynicism by some of hte people on here.

If you cant do anything but bitch about problems, then shut the fuck up please. But if youre willing to get off your fucking lazy ass and turn your complaining into something productive then GO DO IT ALREADY!

Im not saying Im the most worldchanging person ever, but I just get annoyed by some of hte people who are all into weed and have peace signs and say peace and whatever, but who dont even lift a finger to do anything towards making peace or any of their world visions or dreams in general a reality. If youre worreid about human rights, then try out Amnesty, and wriitng letters and participating in their campaigns...

...and in joining something like Amnesty or any other cause, tehre is a big question you answer:

Are you ready to turn your complaining into action?
Or are you going to be one of those lazy ass poeple who hide their laziness by acting like they have the "upper hand" and the "wisdom" to see that your actions are "obviously" pointless??

 

Well... you know, there's a saying.

Sometimes you just have to fix it yourself, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I do think the largest part of this comes into play when people don't realize how good they have it in this country compared to some other places they could be. But to be honest, if I had to choose between Anna Nicole and an Ethiopian, I'd probably rather live with the Ethiopian. Actually, my mom is from Indonesia, so I know how it is, to an extent.

I don't believe one has to have intercourse for free love to exist. It's not like I'm going to have sex with the CEO of Toyoto Motor Corp. because I believe in free trade. It's just on different levels, angles, and spectrums.

I'd rather just meet someone and spend the day with them... I have a thing about commitments and, at times, social anxiety, as it is.

I think the worst part is when folks bitch to the youngins like they aren't doing anything, yet... they aren't or they don't know, or they don't see our situation.

Either way, we're all entitled to opinions... I could care less about pissing and moaning. Despite Nike being a super mega evil corp, they have a nice little slogan going on.

 

If you ask me the current peace movment has'nt failed because a lack of poeple behind it. it's because marches and such are outdated. People in washington don't care about people walking and singing songs. And using violance is 50/50. You'll get attention but half the people will turn away from your cause and you'll sure have a lot of shit from people after that too.

 

The peace marches and stuff ARE outdated! And the thing is that you can't say "we want peace!" by using violence, it is hypocritical! It isn't as easy as it used to be. If we want to be less apathetic, it will take more than 24 hours on the mall in DC with a bullhorn. It will take more than signing a few letters. Though these things can HELP and aren't inhearantly bad, we need to focus our energy on something newer, something bolder and something bigger.

The system has failed us, it has failed Iraq, and it has failed the soldiers. But... What can we do about it? Obviously, we can do SOMETHING, but what?

 

Start a pac/petition/forum and a blogger and take advantage of your communications and resources that have surfaced and updated over the past fourty or so years. It's the new thing to do.

 

I think there are a lot of complex reasons why we can't end this the same way you guys did back in the day - I mean, after all, they punished you for it - kent state, mlk ... I really believe many people who might help are so busy just trying to survive - think how complicated life has become; people spend more time driving to work, taking kids here & there, sorting out medicaid for aging parents ... credit card debts ... etc etc. I submit that all this disenfranchisement of ordinary people is not an accident. There's not better way to keep people from *thinking* than making them focus on survival.

 

just what did you do to end the war? you were maybe 14 years old when nixon first stated that he was going to end the war and the draft.

Give us hope and patience instead of arrogance and tension and you might just find what you're looking for, if it's truly what you're looking for, brethren. Until then, I guess you're just right well drifting up shit's creek without a paddle and you probably won't be going anywhere soon.
