I'm interpreting this as people who define rock n roll and not necessarily are the best at their insturment. I don't even consider duane allman a rock guitar player. Top 10 rock gods: 1) Mick jagger 2) jimi Hendrix 3) jim Morrison 4) Steven Tyler 5) jimmy page 6) maynard James keenan 7) ozzy osbourne 8) eddie van halen 9) kurt cobain 10) slash
i would being less than truthful if i didnt go with Elvis! around here it is a common saying: dont thank god thank Elvis
I voted "other" because I don't believe there really is any guitar "god". Music is a creation of the human soul, which is very much organic and definitely NOT of "god". "God" in whatever form, may have had some influence during the writing/performing process, but "god" did not directly performed the music. Therefore, regarding a musician as "god" seems a tad unrealistic. I however believe all of those musicians mentioned in this thread so far was born to do what they did. They are/were destined to play music and touch the hearts of so many people. For that, I feel totally comfortable placing guys like Billy Joe Armstrong and Kurt Cobain right up there with Hendrix and Satriani.
That may have been an unfair statement since I guess he was in Derek and the Domino's and I haven't heard that much of The Allman Brothers. But his supposedly defining statement of "Live at Filmore East" he sounds like strictly a blues player to me.
eric clapton is winning over duane allman ?? eric will tell you right now duane is better than he is lol
Eric Clapton has way better riffs than any Allman Brothers songs. Eric Clapton was in like 5-10 different groups. Duane Allman mainly played slide guitar so it's hard to compare the two.
duane died at the age of 24, eric is still alive so that accounts for playing in more bands. you've probably listened to more eric than i have and i've probably listened to more duane than you have. i voted for jimi anyway
