Can't believe how people feel the need to be so radical and ignorant about religion and faith in general. Extremists ok, but this does make you guys seem extremist It must be complete ignorance and misunderstanding to come to such a judgemental conclusion. Totally pointless (i'm serious though)
I should witness organised ignorance's murdering thousands and waging pointless wars, and not speak my mind about it because some zombie might call me ignorant and radical, and pointless...?
I have faith in a solid physical reality. It may or may not be true but believing in it helps me get on with my day.
You can speak your mind about anything obviously but you seem to choose to focus only on the most negative aspects followers have brought upon religion. It makes me wonder how much aspects you have actually studied or even observed before you made your judgement. I am not religious myself so calling me a zombie only enforces my statement about you.
And calling me ignorant for speaking an observation only enforces my opinion that YOU are in fact a mindless zombie.
Constructive convo you are trying to have. I explained what I found to be ignorant of your statement.
There's a difference between atheists and skeptics. Not all atheists are skeptical or apply reason to anything beyond their own opinion.
Physical reality is a constant, predictable experience I've observed every day for over 40 years. I need no faith in my knowledge that I will experience the same thing tomorrow if I'm still conscious. I live in a world of probabilities, not faith. "I don't see what future the world has, as long as people think like that, and people are going to go on thinking like that. As long as they're brought up from childhood, from the cradle, to think that there's something GOOD about faith. To think that there's something good about believing because you've been told to believe rather than believing because you've looked at the evidence."
Drugged with his own illusions of enlightenment,he calls out from the fog of his own oblivious closed mindedness...
Harm has no face. If you wiped religion from the earth you would still have senseless wars et.all. That you pick a particular flavor of dis-ease is not based on reason friend.
Without the ignorance of faith, wars would be a hell of a lot harder to start. Faith is a crucial backbone of most warfare, from the soldier to the army to the supporters. Humanity will never improve if we can't objectively look at all components that lead to breakdown. Faith is one of them, you can ignore what is is and get nowhere or try to improve. Watch the video with an opened mind instead of instantly rejecting it. If that's at all possible for most of you. When FAITH trumps common sense in most of your population... YOUR FUTURE IS FUCKED!!!! FUCKED, my friend, FUCKED!!!! If things don't change, the future of our species is FUCKED!
I'm thinking there's a confusion here between 'faith' and 'religious faith' Science may yet prove that reality is not objective and solid. But I have faith physical objects exist. This faith to me is based on common sense.
War is always for resources. Self identification is the crucial backbone of all conflict. This is my point to you. I don't instantly reject it. I find the reasoning suspect, not because of my prejudice or "faith", but because in considering all things the reasoning is flawed. Again, it is an authority problem, not a problem of faith. I think common sense in this instance is sorely lacking no matter it's proportions and what is needed is superior sense.
So people are just inherently evil and devoid of any empathy or good? It's either outright evil or the evil of faith. Even I, the ultimate skeptic, refuse to believe humans are purely evil in consciousness. I can not imagine how a war could possibly start without first having some false beliefs and false confidence that faith provides. talk about false beliefs, what percentage of all the armies of all the wars in history do you think actually believed THEY were the bad guys, or wrong, or would loose everything? What percent? hmmm... according to you I guess HALF of them must have realized they were actually the evil side, huh? If faith had nothing to do with it.... If convictions of ignorance had nothing to do with it... Warfare is a hell of a lot more complex than "they have resources, lets kill them". War is "I BELIEVE I can beat them", War is "I BELIEVE I'm better than them", war is "I BELIEVE I deserve their land", war is "I BELIEVE God is on MY side"... ALL IGNORANCE, ALL FAITH!
I watched the flick, thought it was pretty good and reasonably sound. But certainly not worth shouting and fighting amongst each other... Think there may be a lesson in that?
People are energetic expressions. Evil and good are characterizations. It is in the absence of characterization that we begin to be able to assess essential ingredients. Needn't be either. I agree with you an many levels. Like I say, it is an authority problem, not a problem of faith. Faith in the form of a sense of security is essential to well being. We are inherently and justly devoted to our good or our god. It is not a matter of unsound men, but of men who learn so well, unsound principles. So what I am saying is it is not the fault of faith but of misapprehension. As far as war being fought over resources. By resources I mean whatever it is one feels he must have for good functioning. The kind of ignorant convictions you are talking about are not the sole propriety of the religious but are generally cultural inductions at large, based on taboo and hero worship.
Shouting and fighting is not something I think I can actually accomplish through typing to the internet. I am more inclined to consider this a discussion of ideas.
