the difference is that 3 factors apply:
    1) women are typically the primary caregivers and parents of their children
    2) you are feeding and giving life to another human being within your body for nine months (if you want to be scientific and technical, its a parasite--but that sounds really negative)
    3) LABOR! Holy hell men dont have to push marbles out of their urethras, why should anyone feel they have any valid opinion in whether or not a woman pushs a fucking BABY out of her VAGINA!!! its up to us, and even just that reason should be enough. on top of that, the number of deaths in the united states from childbirth is steadily rising. and that would be a HORRIBLE way to die.

oh wait, i just re-read your post and saw that you were asking, more or less, why NOT abortions instead of why abortions. my bad. i guess guys have a very valid point in the regard, but i guess the assumption is that when 2 people consentually have sex, they're prepared for the consequences. sometimes that means a baby. its the womans decision to keep it or not because if she does, its assumed that she will be the sole parent if the guy doesnt want it and she'll be contributing time as well as money towards the child. men are expected to contribute only money. thats her sacrifice for her decision, but since it takes 2 to tango, or screw, both have to have a fairly equal contribution to the results.

I am a pharmacy tech. If I was morally opposed to birth control I would not have become a pharmacy tech. If I were a vegan I wouldn't work at a steak house. The same logic applies.

When you decide to become a pharmacist you go through about 7 years of school. If, in those 7 years you don't come to the realization that you will be dispensing birth control, you are an idiot.

Maybe some of these women that run into these pricks should go back after having been refused and take a small contract saying something like "since I,the pharmacist, having refused the proper medication relative to (your name) condition, promise to legally support any child you may have from birth until the child's 18th birthday regarding this specific incident, due to my refusal to dispense or to refer.----Differant situation, but I got my oldest boy out of school vaccinations(he got really sick after his first vacs)by saying to the school lady"you sign a paper taking Full responsibility for whatever happens to my son as a result of them and we'll do it".She refused and he got in.--------

If you don't want to perform abortions, don't work at an abortion clinic. If you don't want to prescribe birth control, don't work as a doctor. It's as simple as that. You have a duty to a patient, not a possible unborn child. I think it is unacceptable to deny health care due to "personal" beliefs.

    Peace and love

    Let me stir a bit.

You are a surgeon. Your specialty is stomach stapeling. As a responsible phyisican, you know that this operation has a high rate of complications, many of them due to the extreem lifestyle changes that a tiny stomach forces on the patient.

If your experience leads you to believe that a particular patient will not be able to make those changes, does the "if you don't like the heat, don't get into the kitchen" principle require you to operate, even though you believe that there is a high probablity of harm to the patient.
    ------
A similar situation, you are a very experienced plastic surgeon with a patient who wants breast enlargement for all the wrong reasons. Do you operate?

May I offer a suggestion that might make people happier. To the normal licensing for "Doctor" add an other class of license for "Doctor who imposes ethics on patients." (Similar for other HCPs) Let the patient choose who they want to be their doc. Some bells and whistles may need to be added to insure that ER docs are Docs rather than "Docs with v.strong personal ethics".

The problem I see here is that such a thing would inevitebly carry over to entire hospitals and other facilities. What about a medical patient who's only viable option to see a doctor means visiting a privately owned hospital with "ethics"? Or more disturbing - if the lines continue to drift in that direction - if a conservative company like Wal-Mart opposes the medication you need, but it's the only pharmacy you can get to?

People deserve medical care. There shouldn't be exceptions to giving a woman the medical care she needs or wants.

truly a good decision. theres at least 5 or 6 pregnant girls at my school and one girl at my lunch table brought it up in conversation. i said something to effect of "someone needs to tell these girls about abortions and birth control" and everyone at the table looked at me as if i'd suggested we boil the babies alive and eat them. thats what i get for living in the bible belt, i guess.

Doctors that do elective surgeries can and do reject potential clients. It's a different situation when the doctor is working with emergencies- there is nothing elective about getting raped and needing Plan B.

Catholic hospitals do not dispense birth control or perform abortions. They are privately owned and operated so they aren't required to do something that is outside their belief system. Now, if you go to the county hospital ER and are denied the morning after pill on the basis of religion, you have a nice fat lawsuit on your hands.

Here in Washington state, you can get the morning after pill without going to a doctor. The pharmacist can write and fill the perscription for you. I don't know if pharmacists in other states can do the same.

Another thing - some doctors dont even tell the woman all the info, or all the treatments available. I think thats pretty harsh.

I'm vegetarion because of my religon so if i go get a job at McDonalds (granted i cant yet) then would i be able to refuse to serve people buying beef burgers on the basis that its against my beliefs?? No, I think Id be fired. But nothing happens to them (docs which refuse) and thats a much more serious issue.

we all know that religion is the cause of 90% of the worlds issues but for some reason it's still pushed.

I say it's a form of brain washing!

no religion = no wars, womens rights and a world free of classes

In a few years you'll realize that this is incorrect. Without religion, humans will find other excuses to repress classes of people and start wars.

Well you can understand that its against his religion, and yeah sure he wasnt the best doctor to see but surely another doctor would have given the morning after pill out. I've heard of this before but it was a abortion they were disbuting.

damn right i would - if thats the general area of surgery he specializes in. if he doesn't, his ass is fired.

dont' work in that area if you are against it - plain and simple..plenty of other areas where you can work as a doctor, where your religious beliefs won't be put into question

Can you make a Dr do an abortion? Like are they done outside of an abortion clinic? and if a dr is working at an abortion clinic and doesnt want to then isnt that their problem not the patient?

I'm actually erally upsetthat 20% odf people on teh poll have voted for doctors being permitted to wotrk in such a manner.

it should simply be made law that a doctor can't do that. that way his religion doesn't get in teh way. he has no choice.

i can't believe anyone would do such a thing!?

Its worse than getting a job in a strip club and then saying yoru religion doesn't allow you to take off your clothes in front of strangers.

I was under the impression that most abortions are performed by General Surgeons.

And it still seems hugely counterintuitive to me that somehow not agreeing with abortion should somehow stop a doctor from performind apendectomies, mole removals, and whatever surgeries exist that don't require huge specialization.
