I love Sheela na Gig. I think they probably actually represent a humorous depiction (maybe I'm way off base though) because the female figure flashing her genitals to make others laugh is found in a lot of different cultures mythology. I think it would be totally Irish humour to pop one above the doorway of a church to remind folk not to take themselves so seriously!
